Alphatrack question(s)
Hi All,
Is there and way to improve the resolution of the knobs when adjusting the eq? Is this a setting in DP itself or an alphatrack update?
I've tried the 'flip' mode with the fader but the resolution is still the same.
Also, any way of getting the MWEQ to come up in the EQ mode alongside the standard parametric eq's. Its a bit untidy in the plug-ins mode.
apart for these I am very impressed by this little unit.
thanks
Barks

resolution
Hi!
I have the same problem. The resolution of all the other values except volume seems to be 127 (MIDI) steps. Maybe this is because of some limitation in the communication protocol.. i don‘t know..
maybe its the driver for dp.
But otherwise i can say i am very happy with the alphatrack!

Don't you get finer resolution if you press down on the knob? I'm not in the studio to check it out.

thanks for the replies.
Yes theres a slight improvement with the pan, but the EQ variables are the ones I am most interested in, and there appears to be no change when pressing down the knob in this mode.
For instance, the eq freq works in approx doubles when sweeping; 20, 40, 80, 160 etc. If you manually set it at 50Hz, then turn the knob it resorts back to the same 20, 40 80 etc.

You might want to go over to the Frontier Design forum and post a suggestion or ask about this. Perhaps they can improve this by updating the DP driver?

Thanks James.
Have now posted on the Alphatrack Forum. I realise this may be a co-development issue between MOTU and FD. We'll see.
regards
Barkley

FYI I got this response fro the Alphatrack Forum which seems promising:
"With DP and AlphaTrack the EQ section has been coded such that we look for specific EQs in the list and then map it to the encoders. As you point out this is only done for the stock EQs right now. It should be possible to do the same with Masterworks, I'll put it on the list for future investigation.
As for the resolution of the encoders, this is greatly a function of DP's SDK right now. Typically when you control something (i.e. pan) we tell DP to increase or decrease the parameter value by a certain amount, less so if using fine control. The interface for the EQs is different in this regard in that telling DP to increase/decrease a bit doesn't do anything. From experimenting we found that there are a set # of values that DP will take and that's what we are using. We've reported this as a bug (or feature request) to the Motu folks and hope to regain more control in a future version of DP."

Hmmm... at least they're looking into it. I may go to the forum and try and make the point, however, that MW *is* a "stock EQ" in Digital Performer.

Great Avatar, Santa!
I pointed this out in my response as well.
I don't know when I last used the "Parametics".
I wouldn't think there would be many mourners if they changed it to see the MWEQ bundle instead of the ParaEQ bundle.
