Express XT parallel - port listed as PC Flyer??? Help!!!
Hi all,
Glad I fond the forum, seems some great experience and advice. Saying that, I still haven't got to the bottom of my problem, and I need your help!! I'm certain I'm not the first that this has happened to , and I'm sure someone has a solution. Here goes ...
Express XT parallel [older version]. Lights flash when XP starts up, has worked previously, but now all I get within Cubase is PC Fler port A & B. I've uninstalled and re-installed the 2.51 drivers, doing everything in order as readme file and other threads, and still no luck. I'm reluctant to throw it out and buy something else, as many other threads have similar miserable endings.
Someone must know what's really going on, even though I've ascertained the following:
1 MOTU aren't really that bothered about XP, the drivers MUST be a little unfinished/tested in theprogramming department ...
2 The port is checking on XP startup - so it's seeing something there - but doesn't load up any details of the EXPRESS XT. Clockworks, similarly doesn't recognise What it is that's there - comes up as PC FLYER ports A&B
Any comments would be extremely appreciated.

Install ?
Hi Mokadi !
I'm guessing you got a "deal" on an older parallel model like I did.
Have you tried the steps listed here ?

This is all MoTU has to say

I'm still looking for documentation. I actually bid on ANOTHER one just to get the manual.....

OK, now I'm at the same point you are. XP saw it, and asked me to install the drivers. But all I get is PC Flyer A & B.
Note to anyone that didn't get a cable with their used unit. I bought a null modem cable thinking that was what I needed. It's not, these things are straight through pin to pin. DB25m to DB25f.

OK, download the 32 bit console from their website.
I'm at work so I can't control any hardware (the Express is under my desk
) BUT.....Clockworks now shows 4 in ports, 6 out ports (as well as the Factory Presets !) and Sonar 6.0 home studio also shows all the available in and out ports.
I think this did it.
$35.00 (plus shipping) on E-bay, a $4.00 cable from Frys, and I've got a stand alone patch pay that also interfaces with my DAW.
Cool.

OK, I'm talking to myself now....but.
I'm watching the Micro Express change presets as I choose them from the console.
So, I'm not sure the sequence of events I went through, but they're something lijke:
1. Set the LPT1 to EPP (Actually, I used Bi-Directional)
2. Use device manager and make sure LPT1 is set to "use any interupt"
3. Also make sure "Enable legacy P&P" is UNCHECKED
4. Get a NON NULL DB25m to DB25f (straight thru)
5. Hook it all up.
6. Download and install setupmidi_2.51.zip. Unzip in a folder and run setup.exe.
7. Go to add new hardware, choose add new, and choose list all devices.
Press OK when it tells you the drivers are unsigned. Point to the folder you unzipped and point to MotuPara.inf when prompted.
8. Download and install 32MIDI.zip. Unzip in a folder and run setup.exe
9. Re-boot.
I think this is all. You'll have a folder called MOTU, and in it will be CLockworks and the LPTRefresh shortcut. You can tell right away if the device is commucating by pushing LPTRefresh. The machine will blink.
I'll go home and install it again to get the order of the steps down. Also, I'm gonna try a USB to Parallel adapter on my laptop and see if it still works (I'm using a docking station now).
Go get on E-bay. These things are cheap and all over the place.
Hell, I'm gonna start buying them up and testing them for re-sale, along with installation instructions !!

still a PC FLYER!!
HI guys,
Still haven't got to the bottom of this. I un-installed everything, unplugged, etc. Loaded software - or I tried to - windows said it couldn't find the motupar.inf file - even though I showed it where it was.
Re-played the same steps - had to cancel and un-install again.
Now, in the 'found new hardware wizard, it gets to kss.dll and then re-starts the computer. The info on the MOTU site does not agree with the sweetwater info listed earlier. I can understand the fact that we have to get around windows wanting to find the correct driver from its bank - where we want to use ours! [I had this on a bluetooth device, that windows thought it new better and DIDN'T ....
FYI, when windows XP starts up, the led's flash - the LPT port is fine, set to standard/SPP, in device manager, 'use any interrupt' is checked, and the 'legacy' emulation is NOT checked.
I'm running cubase VST 5 - PC FLYER port A/B are showing up - not that I can do anything with the unit. I'm stumped! Any ideas? I'd love to write an abso-facto step by step for the others who've had the same issue?
Also, Augerinn, I noticed when I looked again that you said you were using a micro express, rather than the MIDI express XT parallel I have. Does that make any difference?
Yours in hope ...

Actually, I had the Micro, and I just went out and bought an XT because I needed additional ports. Again, set up was a breeze. Maybe because i've done it 20 times now !!!!
Anyway, from a fresh install of XP, here's what I did.
1. Set the LPT1 to EPP (Actually, I used Bi-Directional)
2. Use device manager and make sure LPT1 is set to "use any interupt"
3. Also make sure "Enable legacy P&P" is UNCHECKED

6. Download and install setupmidi_2.51.zip. Unzip in a folder and run setup.exe.
8. Download and install 32MIDI.zip. Unzip in a folder and run setup.exe
9. From the windows menu, run LPT refresh.
At this point, windows should tell you it found new hardware. When it asks for a driver, point to the drivers in the file you unzipped. When it startas asking you if it's OK to install unsigned drivers, you're in.
