5.13 read me

Post by stephen1212b »

Even if you don't read the manual you might want to look this over. For anyone running FX the following, taken from the DP5.13 update read me, clarifies instances when FX are not pre-rendered. This will affect CPU load and possibly bounce to disk.

In some situations, effects always run in real-time. For
example, if an effect is instantiated on an aux track or
instrument track, it always runs in real time. Here are a few
other situations in which effects always run in real time:

all powered plug-ins, such as Universal Audio UAD-1
effects and TC Electronic PowerCore effects

post-fader effects

mono-to-stereo effects

mono-to-surround effects

stereo-to-surround effects

any effects that follow the effects described above in the
signal chain

Plug-in automation is not affected by the
Always run in Realtime
option.

I was surprised no one had mentioned that earlier. The Readme notes are quite substantial for something that advertises itself as primarily a Leopard compatibility release.

I guess MOTU just decided to throw in whatever else was ready at the same time. And they afre to be commended for also taking the time to write up stuff that helps end users but isn't strictly related to the updated features.

Speaking of which, there's quite a bit in this new release, even including things that affect performance. I am very impressed.

I just bounced a track today that utilized my LiquidMix and it rendered in real time... in 5.13 of course.

Actually, the read me notes for 5.13 include notes from other version 5 updates. I guess they figure not everyone is updating from 5.12, that some are updating from previous versions. It is a bit misleading, though, the way the notes are presented.

This feature was introduced at least as early as DP 5.1, possibly 5.0. Readme files for new updates include all the information from previous readme files.

Oops, my fault for not carefully reading the previous update notes recently then :-). Thanks for clearing up the confusion.
