Semi-solution for Ultralite + Vista 32

Post by BluMunk »

Because I know I'm not the only one, I thought I'd chronicle a minor success here for others who are having trouble.

I have a ThinkPad running Vista 32, 2 Gig of ram, and a Belkin firewire card (which is based on the TI Chipset I've seen recommended online).

When I installed the Ultralite, I could not get it to output any sound at all. It popped and crackled on all outputs (and was sending MIDI as well) periodically, but that's it.

What enabled a successful install was re-installing the drivers after turning "User Account Control" off.

Now, the Ultralite works . . . well, sort of. I'm now in the same boat many people seem to be, which is that of having an Ultralite that works a bit, but breaks down into the multi-output static every few minutes.

I'm still trying to get this working, as I've loved MOTU interfaces when I've used them with Apple computers, but I really can't justify getting a new computer. If I make any more progress, I'll be sure to post it.

This is the boat I'm in too (Windows Vista 32, Ultralite, multi-output static). Trying to record a simple Christmas greeting with my family is making me want to sell this Ultralite for something that is better supported on Windows. Frankly, I don't know if this is a hardware problem, driver problem or OS problem, but I don't have the luxury of replacing my laptop to fit the Ultralite. I came back here today hoping someone would finally have a solution to this problem, but no luck.

Has MOTU even acknowledged this as a problem yet? All I've gotten from them is that "that happens when the Ultralite loses sync." OK, well not being the author of the driver how is that supposed to help me?

No, MOTU won't even acknowledge this fatally dismal bug for Vista users. This should have been fixed long ago but pretty much every Vista user I have read here seems to experience this problem.

I especially notice it when hard drive activity kicks up, but sometimes it just starts for no apparent reason. I am the proud owner of a $500 paper weight half the time. Thanks MOTU!
