I appreciate your comments, Shooshie, but I have to say I really didn't see anything offense about my comments and think the whole thing got blown out of proportion. I mean, look at this:

Anybody else sick of hearing this?

No offense, but I must field 4 of these a month.
I said NOTHING to offend this guy personally. I was commenting on the frequency of the request IN GENERAL. I didn't complain he was new on the board. I didn't say he was ignorant. In fact, I WAS THERE in the same EXACT PLACE not too long ago, with spikes stopping my playback. I resonated with his problem and sincerely tried to help him.

I took the time to try and help him and in the process mentioned that there are a lot of requests for the same thing fairly often.

That he CHOSE to take exception is what I find... (how can I put this without offending him...?) Well, I can't so I won't comment further in that regard. But I stand by my post as non-offensive. But along those lines, IS ANYBODY ELSE TIRED OF THIS THREAD YET? It's really not about "ME" it's about HIM not liking me.

And frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn!

Put yourself in newbie shoes and read your words. They do not convey welcome, patience, or anything but irritation, arrogance, and even pre-emptive denial: "no offense, but..." There just isn't any way you can couch this in which it doesn't come off as rude. Rudeness is most likely NOT what you wanted to convey, but these are words; words do not obey your wishes. They just state what society makes of them by consensus.

Really, it's not a big deal, but we'd be blind to pretend that it wasn't throwing some blame on the questioner for asking the question. Hey man, I'll throw myself in front of a train for you, so that you have a chance of getting up and out of there, but I won't lie to you. You'll always know where you stand with me, and it takes a friend to be your mirror that way. I say you should just take a quick look in that mirror, decide what you want to do with what you see, and then go right on with life. Perhaps more than rudeness it was just haste. We're all allowed the occasional mis-step of the printed word, especially when we write quickly without editing. It's a quicksand medium. Don't worry about it; it was a rough spot, but everyone's fine now.

I've been shocked and amazed on more than a few occasions when my "kind" and carefully chosen written words were misinterpreted as terrible affronts to a reader. Critical tonal aspects of oral communication are often lost when we use the pen, particularly when the reader doesn't carefully study and consider that which is written. Like the musical score that only hints at the nuance of a skillful live performance, the written word is not as intuitively communicative as speech. And if anyone has actually read this far and disagrees... I now resist the urge to tell you to take a flying leap in a rolling doughnut, fearing the (of course) good-natured and gently ironic humor intended by my words will be misconstrued.

Much more important: I had a great Thanksgiving, and am so thankful for my wonderful and musical friends and family, including all the generous souls here at UNation. :D

"Flying leap?" That's not how I remember that phrase. :D

You don't have to field them you CHOOSE to field them.

Being a teacher for five years you do get over it sometimes but we all have to gracious and understand that not everyone has our understanding and ability, for once we didn't ourselves.

In saying all this though the answers were given solutions found etc so we all can move along i suppose

Wow.

I just read through this thread. It was like watching one of those intense episodes of Big Brother.

I just wanted to reiterate the point, for the benefit of all quivering newbies, that this thread is NOT a representative example of the kind of threads you'll find on this site. This was, in fact, the most heated thread I can recall in the two and a half years since I have been a member of Unicornation. Things are usually much less dramatic, and the feelings generally good.

Since you are new to this forum, stayingetdown and ktzstanza, allow me to offer you a warm and friendly WELCOME! :-)

And BTW... I'm surprised that no one mentioned turning off the dashboard. I was getting lots of CPU spikes until I disabled my dashboard. That may help reduce the frequency of your spikes even more.

God, this almost feels like pledging for a fraternity ... more like a sorority.

That's almost funny, Shooshie. I am certainly NOT in denial. Maybe it's cultural, or regional? NYers tend to be very direct and many don't couch comments. NY minute and all that...

Again, I didn't say I was sick of HIM or anyone else reporting this. I AM sick of it not being fixed in DP, but there's a list of things I could add. THAT is why I said don't take it personally.

I also don't look at post counts and don't think I have to check to see how long someone has or hasn't been here - nor do I feel I am the welcoming committee. If I notice, I do welcome them. But denial?
