More strange Leopard behavior

If I search my Mac for Quicktime Player, I get one result. But if I select a playable file and get info, I can choose between different players (one with an earlier version number).

So I opened the same file in the two players at the same time and from the dock requested to "show in Finder." The old player resides on my backup drive that is dedicated to Time Machine. IOW, Spotlight doesn't see it on the backup, yet the Finder (via Get Info) does see it and will access it and open it.

Loop hole? Normal behavior?

Spotlight. I've never put it to work because the regular Finder locates things that Spotlight won't even know are there. I was hoping this might have been improved in Leo.

Does Spotlight require some deeper-level, time-intensive process of journaling the drives before it's fully effective?

It's had a few weeks. I posted on the Apple discussions as well, so I'll see if any super-geeks reply and let you know. But it doesn't bode well for finding that long lost file in the Time Machine archive, does it?
