Contemplating?
Hi five to all DP cats, cause i'm one myself and have been for 4 years but sence lately, in the mitzed of signing a major recording contract and i've been thinking about how to have a serious tight recording format. I'm not wanting to bash DP but i have to say that DP has been a great writting tool for me but i truly need to go to the next level. What i mean is that i'm a stickler for timing, keeping the tracks tight, like i used to be able to do in the good old days of external sequencers and anolog mixers. My gripe is this-Drift Drift Drift. Tracks do begin to drift as a song grows because we have to somtimes change buffer sizes while recording and mixing. And also the latentcy issue while recording. Sure i could moniter thru an out board mixer or use a 896 with no latentcy of which i used to have but have since sold and now use the Rosetta 800 into a 96/32 Rme card. Its starting to ware on me and i need to get serious. Its no longer about bells and whistles but its about tightness. That in the pocket feel that goes out the window with big DP projects. I will be getting Pro Tools hd3 and a control 24 mixer with maybe an anolog summing device. I would like to use DP as a front end sometimes if drifting and latentcy are'nt still an issue. Is anyone using DP as a front end out there for PT-HD that can comment for me or any one out there sharing this frustration and wanting to step up?

Re: Contemplating?
I was a full time DP user ,with a similar situation and 3 year ago bought PT HD 3 thinking that I can use DP as a front end. There were (and still are) a lot of issues with DP , like saving too slow , drift and not compatibility with some VI. BUT Every day is getting better -DP4.52 is getting there- and you can use RTAS plugins (weill , some of them) , but I learned Protools and I am using both. Usually I start with DP and do final sequencing and Mix in PTHD.
The PT transport and reponse interface is just great , but in DP you have MIDI features and Drag and drop audio file capabilities.
Here is my Philosophy:
If you have the resouces , do not limit yourself. Get both , learn them very well and make your production decitions .
I have Logic Pro 7 (great features) in Mac and GIGA 3 and Acid Pro 5 in PC, too (yes , I apreciate the fact that there is an inmense world of posibilities in PC , too)
I really underestimate this silly MAC PC war , I use both!
and I still love DP! with the good and the bad things!
