Anyone playing Giga file with Machfive 2?

Post by dhumez »

I would like to know if anyone plays giga files with Machfive 2.
For me, Giga files do not work with MAchfive 2. It is too bad because I have a large Giga library.
I have ask Motu for help but I have not been successful in receiving answers.

It is a reminder to be humble and admit your defeat. Cut your losses and move on.
I record full time with 10 years of experience recording using various DAW. Including DP5, Logic Pro 8 and Protools HD3.

I have been able to use giga files in M52, but TBH I have only got a few of them so I don't have much experience with it. The ones I do have have loaded up without trouble.

Hopefully someone who encountered problems and solved them will be able to help. More detail maybe? When you say the files do not work, what do you mean exactly? The files don't load? The files load but won't play? They load and play, but sound weird?

Thanks for replying.
The giga files loads OK but while playing instead of notes I hear a high pitch noise. (Good sound effect for hollywood movies like alien birds). This happen in DP5.12, logic Pro 8 and Protools.
When ready to play giga instruments the first two or three notes plays OK, but after is all alien birds.
I try changing Hard Disk, Re-loaded giga files from the original disk.
But this is solid malfunction. I worked with DAW for the last 10 years. I have seen all kind of Bugs but this one is big.
I wrote to Motu using the protocol, got an answer asking for additionnal questions but ever since I have silence over 2 weeks now I dont think their tech group is that busy?
I find it strange that Motu did not answer my questions usually they are very helpfull.

Eric, it just might be that they are trying to recreate your problems and can't really answer your question until they understand what happens....

I've loaded a few VSL keyswitch samples which load and play flawlessly so far!!!

I should audition more. One of my gigas just died and thinking of replacing it with a Mac Mini and M52.

Used to have weird sustain pedal problem in M52 as well as the stand-alone version disappeared. But all seems fixed in 2.02 upgrade!!!!

Anyone else replace their giga with a Mac Mini????

I spent most of the day yesterday copying my giga samples over to Mach5 and they mostly all worked but I'm still having some trouble with keyswitching on some files (Dean solo strings, for one- see my other post on this board) and some files are playing back with weird glitches that don't happen when played on Giga. I'd say 80 % work fine though. Just my 2 cents!

I have a large library of Giga files. I thought that porting them over to MachFive was a no-brainer. Boy was I wrong.

MachFive is a lumbering, processor-heavy VI. Compared to running the same presets on my Windows-Giga machine, MachFive stutters, spikes, and basically EATS the processor. And believe it or not, this three-year-old Windows machine totally outperforms my Mac running MachFive.

So other than convenience, there doesn't seem to be anything to recommend MachFive running Giga files.

There, I said it.

Well, I somewhat disagree. I just spent the day recreating my Gigastudio 64 channel orchestra template on M5 v2.02 and I actually ended up with a 96 channel new orchestra template on Mach 5 and it loads and works pretty well. I don't know if I'll be able to do massive MIDI orchestral mockups with this alone, but I just got through inputing a section of Holst's Jupiter and it did pretty well- I even ran Altiverb for the reverb. I probably will keep a Gigastudio computer as if I'm doing lots of audio tracks along with mach 5 it'll probably crap out- but I was actually impressed that Mach 5 loaded 96 fairly big sounds from Giga - it did take a minute and a half to load, though!
