Indeed-- where cost is concerned, things are "more or less" even between a good amp and a Variax. If held at gunpoint and forced to choose now, I'd choose the amp without question. That's where I am right now.

But I do appreciate all the feedback and input.... as well as the output. Funny how feeback occurs when input and output are routed improperly. There's some wisdom buried in there somewhere.

But being less than a month into the new Casino and Ricky, financial resources must be watched carefully. The 'season' is also nigh upon us, and considerations must be given to giving instead of getting.

But I'm taking all advice at face value for the moment until such time I go whoring for more gear! :P

Is anyone else getting unreliable e-mail notifications to this thread? Up until the last couple of weeks I have always been able to rely on e-mail notification, but now I hardly get any notices at all, and when they do arrive they often arrive several days late. I just got one from the 29th of October. :?

The only way for me to follow things now, is to constantly open the forum page and see if anyone has responded to the topics I am interested in following.

Perhaps it is because this thread is getting so big, but I believe the same thing is happening for me with other topics as well. Is anyone else experiencing something similar?

I think you are being very diplomatic, but doubt that there is a chance in hell that you would buy a VariAx.
Reminds me of that old phrase: you can't polish a variax.

There have been quite a few days when it was difficult to log on-- "could not open the site" or "server unavailable" or something similar. There are days that go by when I have to log on with my password and other days when I'm already logged on.

I seem to get notices about PMs just fine, but thread subscriptions are touch and go.

I haven't experienced that since James changed servers last year (or early this year).

Usually I'm always logged in automatically when I go to the site, and only have to enter my password, on average, every 2-3 months.

Yeah, me too, now. I just got a couple more notifications from this thread, at the same time, for 2 different days. None from other threads I thought I was following. Weird.

Yep-- that's the thing: I'm always "logged on" from my end, too. I know that something is going on when these preferences automatically reset themselves.

Like tonight, for example-- the site feels slow loading. Most days, pages pop right up. Tonight, it takes about 30 seconds or more, but fortunately things load before the system times out and gives me a 408 or 500 code (request time-out or internal server error).

I wish I had one of those VOX mini amp sims tonight.

Am curious to know how they will affect the amplifier sound if I feed the output into my Fender Blues Junior. Will it turn my Fender into a VOX? ...or something closer to a VOX? I suspect it will definitely give some additional tonal options. Can't wait to try. :-)

I'm ordering one as soon as it can be confirmed that they are in stock somewhere.

I wonder about output quality on anything other than a headphone jack. Could be a nice effect to set the Fender flat and clean with the Vox in between the guitar and the amp.

Stranger things have been done!!

Just to brake the thread a little, I'd like to ask whether anyone has tried the FabFour in DP on a MacBook Pro. I get lot's of big CPU spikes when using it, although its own meters hovers below 10%.

I know Frodo has done that, so he may have some advice for you. You should probably make sure you have the current version of the PLAY software (v.1.0.021) which you can download at: http://www.soundsonline.com/updates.php
