Out of the ashes (DP on a Leopard machine)

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

So while I wait for MOTU to upgrade DP, and still want the features of Leopard, I took a modest 150GB HD, reformatted it and installed Tiger (up to 10.4.8). Then I simply clicked on DP on the Leopard drive and guess what? It runs great. I'll have to copy some plugs, but that's easy. The only PITA is having to reboot when I use DP. OTOH, when I do boot for DP, there is NOTHING to interfere with it and with such a small OS overhead it runs... snappier!

I realize that there are a number of users who already have a separate boot drive for DP and feel this is essential. I never have, but apparently,Tiger is the new "Classic" and a separate boot drive (or partition) seems to be in the immediate future for some of us.

Leopard will even back up the Tiger boot drive (assuming I can get Time Machine to work and get a multi TB drive.)

Best of both worlds and only have to limp with the Tiger in a session. Not all that bad.

Panthers and tigers and leopards... oh my! I don't think we're in Kansas any more!

FWIW, Magilla, my "emergency" partition is 11.53GB.
I've 8.7GB free as I've used 2.83GB.

It's only got DP 4.61 installed on it under Panther with presets and clippings, but I remember being amazed at how small a partition OSX would accept.
Certainly seems worth doing, although I've not needed to boot from this partition since DP 4.61 was the newest kid on the block.
