I've been to Amsterdam, "spiritually", quite a few times. But never physically.

Been to Amsterdam, saw an incredible jazz band in a little hole on the wall pub (in 1987), and had enough money for one Heineken :(

Interesting how this thread seems to be outdoing the L8 threads for replies in such a short time - of course I'm writing this after meeting with John Smith this afternoon, so one can never be too sure about anything 8)

Pernod is delicious. It gives me analog warmth.

I just wanted to participate in this thread somehow.
So there.

Crikey... who goes to Amsterdam to buy beer?
Given, it's a much-appreciated extra, but... geez.

FWIW, I used to drink Polish Pure Spirit:

http://www.briefguides.co.uk/content/vodka.php

From the article:
The strength of vodka can be ratcheted up to as much as 70% alcohol by volume (ABV) in bottled commercial vodka, and even to 95% ABV to make 'pure spirit', or 'rectified spirit', which is mixed with water as an ingredient for home-concocted flavoured vodka.

The stuff I used to buy in the early '90s was 160 proof.

Well, I went to Amsterdam when my folks lived there, all I had money for was the airfare... and one heineken

Talk about being poor, but thirsty... I have a buddy from a Pacific Island, and he and his buddies would drink a bit, then ride around in a pickup truck with their heads in the wind to get them more drunk (saved money, I guess). Or, they'd go to a disco, and when people woudl get up to dance, they'd help the dancing people finish off their drinks when they weren't looking :? YIKES..

Crikey, I never did think of that one.
With my simian dexterity, I should be able to get away with night-light robbery.
