828mkII together with 2*8pre

Post by andivienna »

Hi

Is it possible to record (with Logic 8) at the same time from the 828mkII and from 2 serial daisy chained 8pre's. I need to record 24 treacks at the same time, and it needs to be very stable, because it will be for live recording.

Which connection do you suggest? i once read that FW is more stable than USB2.

If i take the FW version of the mkII can i daisy chain it to the 8pre??

How about the control software. if i use both devices at the same time, do i need two control pannels (Cue mix DSP)???

Can Logic handle recording from both at the same tme??

Thanks a lot for help.

If you run all three units together with FW, they will all show up in CueMix. You may want to get another clock unit to chain them together. MOTU says you can run 3 units together with FW without an external clock. They still have to be set to the same clock in the MOTU Audio Setup.

how about this solution..
can i daisy chain two 8pres and use the adat out from the 828 (normally USB2.0 but in this case stand alone) to conect to the adat in of one of the 8pre??
In this case i would run all three of them on one FW connection..
Would i need a wordclock for this setup???
Actually i cant find any sync possibility on my 8pre...
and much more important?? is this stable???

Thanks: Andi :D

It should, I've only run my 8Pre into my 828, so I don't know for sure. I don't think you need a clock, but others will tell you how much more focused the sound is. The sync options should show up with the 8Pre hooked up first in line.
