828mkII... a series of problems.

Post by mee3d »

I have owned my 828mkII for 3 years and on the Mac it has performed flawlessly. Recently however I have been experiencing problems to the point where the unit is now pretty much dead.

1. The LCD backlight failed.

2. The unit won't work in anything other then 44.1khz (and the indicator LED continuously flashes).

3. Moving the unit over to a winXP machine seemed to slightly help, after rolling back the drivers to v3.5.3.2 I can only get a latency of about 18ms but at least I can switch to 48khz and the unit locks fine.

4. Then I started to get a high pitched whine followed by the audio dropping out for a few seconds afterwards. Reading about this elsewhere on the forum I performed a hardware reset. Now the unit is not recognized at all... actually it is if I bring up the control panel but trying to launch the Console brings up an error...

"The driver has reported a MOTU error 25"

Called from I_FWcoreIO.cpp line 47
Driver file FireWireProvider.cpp 539 errCode 00000019

Seems that there's something wrong with the firewire bus or the firewire into the 828, although everything else on my PC works just fine.

I tried another FW cable but got the same result, anyone have an idea what has happened to my unit?

If I plug it back into my Mac OSX machine it works fine???

Not sure, but it sounds like the powersupply has failed. If you even any electronics experince you may be able to fix it... but its a switching power supply --- so its not gonna be easy.

If you like in Phoenix, I wouldnt mind checking it out for you, I do a lot of electionics design and building.

PM if interested.

If you can get an RMA. My 828 has been down for 5 days. I have created a trouble ticket, called (always busy), still no RMA.
