strange screen redraw

Post by stringtheory »

on a couple of projects (for the same cd, but i used different project files for different sessions) i have been getting an odd redraw of the control panel, every time i open the projects. nothing seems to help - moving another window over the cp temporarily, etc, in an effort to get it to redraw correctly. i still get the normal control panel on other projects (haven't checked them all) and new projects.

the normal cp:

the odd one - the oddness is at the very bottom, where the "memory" label is moved right, the "project" label is missing altogether, and the left part of the "project" field is cut off:

any thoughts? so far no problems with these projects, which are in the editing/mixing stage, but i get nervous when these kinds of things happen.

thanks,

tony

I've never seen anything like this in DP. I would speculate that something is corrupted somewhere. It could be something in the operating system, but if you are only seeing anomalies in DP, perhaps it's there. Re-installing DP is not a big deal. I think it's worth a try.

i just discovered (after looking at my own screenshots...) that it is related to time format. when i switch "time display," which governs the control panel, to measures format it draws correctly, when "time display" is switched to real time (in any project) it does the odd thing.

guess i'll be sending a note to motu tech support...

This sounds like a simple screen update problem. Nearly all apps that I've seen occasionally get confused with determining what region of the screen needs to be redrawn, as just about everyone has some sort of scheme to determine which part of the window needs updating, and then just draws that part of the window. Otherwise, the alternative would be to forcibly re-draw the whole window every time a portion of it is revealed, which would be inefficient to say the least. Just forward your note along to MOTU. I don't think that re-installing the program is going to make any difference. I just noticed a bug like that in Mach 5 this morning when I went to go wake up my Mac Pro after a couple of days rest. It can be irritating, but its not a big deal. Sometimes just moving another window on top of the affected area and then removing it will force a correct redraw. Either that or resizing the affected window will clean things up.

You are absolutely right. I just tried switching time formats and my display got messed up as well. Hmm.

Trash DP's prefs. Same thing happened to me a while back, lost my sample rate display.

At first I didn't do anything about it and ended up with a corrupted project file, so I suggest you trash prefs now.

For safety, you may want to create a new project and load the sequences/bundles etc. from the old one.

Once you do that, no biggie... at least for me, the problem never came back.
