Digital Performer Suddenly Slow (RESOLVED)

Post by bhcomposing »

Well horror of horrors has happened. My DP 5.12 is crawling!!!!!!! I can't do anything without getting the color wheel of death. I have a MAC G5 dual core, 2.0ghz processing speed, 4.5 GB RAM. I have tried repairing permissions, resetting te PRAM, and trashing the Digital Performer Preferences file. I need additional help now.

It worked fine yesterday.

.

Is it a project you've worked for a long time?

This may be too obvious, but try flushing the undo history and erase/delete unused soundbites.
If you have like tons of little SBs, with fades, pitch automation, etc., try merging them.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

This has happened to me when a controller (Kurzweil) decided to send brazillions of Ctl #19 for some reason. The enormous amount of MIDI data brought DP to it's digital knees.

You might want to check for extraneous ctl messages. Also, start a new project. Don't record anything and run the transport. If it is back to speed, it is something in the (a) file.

Actually...I did open a new project...it is completely blank with nothing in it...the color wheel of death won't even let me run the transport now. I also tried trashing DP 5.12 and reinstalling. No dice.....

Scary! I'd start with moving all you plug-ins to a temp folder and run again to see if they are the problem. If not, then something else is corrupted. If it runs OK with the plugs gone, add them in and DP will examine them next run. If it still doesn't run at that point I'd reinstall the progr.

OPther than that, I'd call MOTU on Monday.

Sounds like a borked hardware driver or a messy plug-in.

RECEPTOR THE PROBLEM

Post by bhcomposing »

I have identified the culprit as being my MUSE Receptor Pro. I shut it down and everything in DP is working fine now. I am restarting my Receptor and it is currently having trouble. Time to give MUSE Research a call. Thanks for your suggestions. It was talking it out with you guys that allowed me to figure out this culprit!
