CueMix and Live Recording

Post by jlward »

I currently use a MacBook Pro and a MOTU Traveler to record live concerts. I use an external hard disk for the recording process connected via eSATA, and DP is the DAW I use to record. I generally use a combination of on-stage microphone placement, in-audience microphone placement, and PA-feed, generally 8-10 tracks. I use CueMix to monitor my inputs separately without DAW involvement, but given timing differences between on-stage and in-audience microphone placement I cannot currently create a monitor mix that would represent what I will create in post-production where I can correct for the timing differences.

Is there a way I can use CueMix to route my on-stage mix through a computer based delay to then mix with my in-audience tracks without routing to an external (hardware) delay?

Does that make sense?

Not sure if I get it but if you are trying to monitor with DP's Latency, then I would simply monitor everything from DP directly with the input monitor of all the tracks you want. Make sure your input monitoring system is configured accordingly though.

Do I understand correctly what you are trying to do?

(if i understood you correctly)
most offten you can delay only the stage mics (by Milliseconds) until the mix sounds in time to the audiance mics.. but it is a tricky process unless you can find out the exact amount of delay... and that is provided there is no bleeding from the stage mics

but this means you would be monitoring in a slight delay from the band

If you "pass input through efffects" in DP , it will increase the CPU load.
Be sure to check that before doin your project.

Tip-Consider the buffer size when calculating your delays !
