I have an Ultralite. My new TV has an optical out. I have an H2O converter from optical to copper. Is there any software that will allow me to use the SPDIF input to decode a digital stream into 6 channels out? It would be nice to recover all my D/A capabilities with software.
If not, what hardware will just do the conversion and produce 5.1 outputs? I don't need an amp or speakers--I have that.
Anybody have any idea on what hardware or software will work?

I think you need a Dolby decoder, as is typically found in surround-capable receivers. I am aware of no software versions other than the costly Dolby software suite, which also provides 5.1 encoding...

Thanks for the heads-up. Boy, this can get expensive fast. Just for grins, I wanted to see the URL above that you sent, but I can't get it to work--it's either dead or something is missing. This is what I got..

I've tried to edit it short and work my way up to an active page, but no joy.
Anyway, it looks as if I'm going to have to get a cheapo theater receiver and hope that I'm not getting too much redundant equipment.
Thanks for the reply.
