Triplets and the Drumeditor

Post by andrewj »

Hi,

I have a big problem with Performer. I wanted to create a track based on 4/3s or 4/6s. we all know this is not possible with performer, because i can not change the meter in the conductor to something like that. the clicktrack also plays to the meter he gets from the conductor. it is also not possible to change the grid in the drumeditor to work with triplets. however i can quantize but i can not work visually in a grid devided by three in the drumeditor.

Yes I know in sequence window and MIDI window I can change the grid like that. but why not in drumeditor and why can't I change the conductor to have everything in thirds at one mouseclick? does noone need that, except me???

Yeah, I wondered the missing of triplets from the DE and tuplets from all windows for a long time ago. I seriously can't see a reason why they've been left off.

Maybe in a future update, maybe not..

I'm not sure what music would sound like in those time signatures - can you dance to it? Be careful or the jazz police will come and take your computer away..............

I'm not sure what key combination I accidentally hit yesterday but it launched a window called the Step Recorder. I've never seen it before, and didn't even know it existed, but I think I noticed a setting for adding triplets. If so, would something like this work?

Wouldn't 12/8 do the same thing as 4/3, and 12/16 as 4/6. those can be set.

Not being a in depth scholar of music, doesn't that achieve the same aim?

I agree about the Drum Editor though. very limited. I think a version of the MIDI editor with drum names at the left would be more useable.

God if only they could do this ! In Opcode Vision you could write you own Drum names in and it would show them on the Piano Roll rather than the note name. Boy do I miss that - the Drum Editor is not worth bothering with in my opinion.

I've never seen it, but I assume the 3 underneath refers to dotted quarter notes as the beat identifier, ie. 4 dotted quarter notes per bar.

Ah ok that's why you compared it to 12/8. Never heard of any 3 as the denominator in a bar metric. 1,2,4,8,16 etc...

I don't know if any DAW will let you do other than 2/4/8/16 etc. Sibelius doesn't as far as I can tell. Not that Sib is a DAW !

but a tool to get triplets in your grid in the drumeditor is a must to me! this was forgotten in my opinion!

Guitar Gaz: There is no Jazz Police in Germany. However perhaps we will get a Jazz Tax in the future! LMAO

Totally agree. The drum editor, in my opinion, is perhaps the weakest part of DP for me. It should have the full range of resolution and you should be able to EASILY play with drum maps.

I agree it lacks some basic feature, and it's easier for me to program in the GE. But IMHO the weakest part of DP is definitely Quickscribe...
