MachFive version 2 on a Single Processor 1.8ghz G5 with..

Post by sdfalk »

Yeah Yeah I know only a gig and a half of ram.
Anyway..guess I wait till a new computer.
MachFive version 2 is unusable on my old dinosaur.
Freezes..random crashes, it works a bit under Logic, but
since DP still consumes significantly more CPU..nope.
I should add I'm only using a Focusrite saffire le for audio at the moment as well.

SD, I have the same comp and although I haven't tried it yet in DP 5.12, I've used it in stand alone mode. It works great. It's solid, fast and 256 buffer. I have 3.5 gigs of RAM maybe that's the difference. I use a MOTU 2408II. I had the same worry that M5-2 wouldn't work on my OLD box. I will try in DP soon.

Tried it with DP, works good, @ 1024. OK @ 512, not so good @ 256. but that was with a piano, and IR rev. and 4 empty tracks in the file. The IR rev. is a hog of course. I seem to remember it used 1.23 gigs of RAM total when I checked with Activity Monitor. So you could try more RAM, before the big plunge into Intel Land. I have 3.5 Gigs. I need to upgrade to a MacPro but 2 new UAD-1 one cards, 1 PCIE card, new RAM for Intel, 8 or quad Macpro, 4- 5 grand! Ouch. Trying to hold on as long as I can w/1.8 G5. But "my time is goin to come". ZEP
