hey Frodo
thanks for the insightful reply as always 1 more question for you,do you think svx would have any real advantages over amp2 with bass vi's?or is this kind of plug more suited for a real bass?

SVX is geared towards shaping bass sounds... the source doesn't have to be a real bass, but a bass type tones.

You can try out 10-day full working demos of each product by downloading them at:

http://www.amplitube.com/
http://www.ampegsvx.com/
http://www.classikstudioreverb.com/

Click on the "download" menu at either site, and you can get the demos. :-) I'm still testing them myself to decide if I want to take part in the 2 for 1.

Mister Zed-- my fellow Liverpudlian at heart!

You got me started with the notion of exchanging patches, and probably need no conflicting encouragement from the likes of me on whether or not to do the 2-fer.

But, I'm going for A2 and Ampeg, fwiw. Discount + plugin = happiness in the shire.

Hmmmmm. It would probably be most useful and educational for us both to have this and to be able to do some patch swapping and comparing... but I just gotta give it a thorough checking first.

I was listening to Native Instruments Guitar Combos last night, and was pretty impressed. I also like the simplicity of having all the knobs accessible at once, and quick and easy patch selection:

The tests will continue.

Please allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your 6000th post. I believe you are the first to reach this Unicornation landmark... and it makes you at least 12 times chattier than me. Does it mean that I spend my time working on 12 times as much music? Probably not, unfortunately. :-(

Ugh-- what's the old saying about quality over quantity? Still holds true here. There's more of shame than pride with the amount of heartache that inspired most of these posts. There's also the old adage that goes, "get a life". Wise words, the lot of it.

Ah, well. Onward and onward...

Thanks, Mister Z, for the Guitar Combos link. I didn't know there was a Guitar Rig LE of sorts. Looking forward to your test results eagerly.

Hey Frodo,

I just wanted to ask how the Fab Four VI is working for you
in DP. I haven't been following this thread, it's too long !!. :P

Well, I need to get Gypsy for a project that's coming
up.

I take it if Fab Four is working, so should Gypsy.

I'm still in DP 5.11 btw.

Thanks.

Hey IMAS:

Another pretty intense orchestra project has pulled me away from Fab Four in the meantime, but the app seems to be doing what it was touted to do -- in Logic. I'm still having some GUI problems, but my intent (before things got busy) was to do a total wipe and reinstall of the whole thing just to get a fresh start and flush out old bugs.

Sometimes, little issues aren't enough to totally render a plugin unusual, but there remains one silly issue that prevents me from using Fab Four in DP-- this being that with Fab Four loaded as a plugin all of the icons on all of DP's window frames are now blank.

Were Fab Four better suited to multi timbrel use, I'd settle for it in standalone mode where all appears to be well.

I've not checked the Soundsonline forum for new reports on Gypsy lately, but I know there were some issues which, at last glance, seem to have been sorted out a bit better than with Fab Four.

Long? It's a frickin' Russian novel!

Seriously though, anyone see the "Bratz" movie? Stunning cinematography.

Thanks for the reminder. I totally forgot about the soundsonline forum. It appears that some still have a few problems with install/auth.

Seems like a risky purchase if my intent is on using it right away.

Hmmm, think I'll flip a coin tonight. Heads I buy, tails I look elsewhere. :?

If you can give me until Saturday evening, I will have had a chance to try the Fab Four re-install to isolute the new dust bunnies from the old ones-- and will post an update.

To that extent, the PLAY engine itself appears to be the same for all of these instruments, so lets see how the results play out. I'm not quite ready to give up just yet and wouldn't want to discourage anyone interested in buying it.

Actually, don't trouble yourself.
I just talked with the producer for the project
and looks like it's going another direction. So I won't be
in a rush to buy this afterall. Whew !!!

Thanks for the offer...you're the best.
I love this forum.

I still plan to get Gypsy (and QL piano) eventually...
but for now, there's no rush to purchase it.

Hey iMAS-- it's a pleasure, regardless. :P

Actually, I'm just as relieved for you as you seem to be for yourself! Not for my sake because I'll have to troubleshoot this PLAY engine issue anyway, but going into a new project with untested plugins is always a big risk with so much riding on something so new.

This is only the 2nd time where I really needed
a certain VI for a project.

The first time was a few years back. I was in another city,
another studio. I was sent out last minute to buy
a certain drum machine and VI. Luckily it worked out.

Gypsy is still a must buy for me as I would like to add
great sounding accordion samples to my arsenal.

LoL...accordion. :P
