10.4.9 has been my most stable OS for Mac yet (on a G5 PPC). Watch out for the last security update, Quicktime past 7.1.3 and the like.

I had to update to 10.4.9 to run the Adobe CS3 Suite, and 10.4.10 fixed a font display problem with AE.

I'd say that 10.4.8 was the less problematic. With 10.4.10, a lot of my programs crash on quit, like Firefox, QT Player, and some of the Adobe stuff. That's not a real problem, as no work gets lost... it's just annoying.

I second the advice to stick with Quicktime 7.1.5 or prior. 7.1.6 is reported to be crapola, here and on some other lists I've subscribed.

Hey all, just to weigh in here... I've restored back to 10.4.8 after trying x4x. All the motu stuff seemed ok, but the update messed up something usb transfer wise. I have a couple flash drives that I load tunes onto to listen to in the car, for some reason the files transfered under x4x would intermittantly screech and crap out. Doesn't happen under 10.4.8... hmmm the update was supposed to "fix" usb issues... bah I'm sticking with the os that came with my machine until there's a reason to upgrade, other than security updates and indescriptive fixes that screw up more than they fix.

I'd go for 10.4.8, Dwetster; it's been bullet-proof for me, and from all I've read, I'm not the only one.

I'm recommending the Vatican spray it on the Popemobile for good measure.

Now you guys have got me worried. What were the problems with 10.4.9? It has been rock solid for me. Anyone want to offer a specific issue to watch out for?

Hey MLC, I can offer no comment as I went from .8 to .10 without doing .9 (yes, I used the correct installer ...) . I recently purchased the machine and felt it most logical to setup / troubleshoot under the original os. By the time I determined things were stable, .10 was out, no reason other than that. If you haven't stumbled onto an issue yet, I wouldn't be overly concerned over .9 ... I would be leary, of course, of the most recent updates (seem iphone related, but goofing up other stuff..)

Thanks. I am usually one of the first to update the OS but fortunately waited a bit on .10. I've seen a few posts that say .9 was not as good as .8 but I have yet to see solid evidence that is the case - certainly not in my system. I wonder of some folks are blaming .9 for the QTime issues form the last few updates there.

Whatever...
