Every time I switch on my 828mkII I get what seem to be default factory settings. It's been like this since I bought it, so at first I thought it was normal (but annoying!). I can save a preset and load everything manually from that preset, which is really strange because if the non-volatile memory were defective, I'd expect to not be able to save anything at all.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Does your 828mkII lose its settings on power-off?

Nobody? Could I ask a favour then .... if you own an 828MkII firewire version, with hardware/firmware 1.01 (with the green display), could you try the following for me please?
1. Put the faders in any setting other than "all zero"
2. Power the unit off
3. Turn the unit back on
Are the faders still in the position they were in before you powered the unit off? Or are they all reset to zero?

My unit's gone back in the meantime. At this point I'd really prefer to just get my money back -- I sick of getting the run-around between store, distributor and MOTU. It's been gone two weeks now and no contact from anyone, I'm going to wait maximum another two weeks and then it's into legal mode. That's over US$1000 I've got tied up in this thing at the moment!
I can't understand how the unit can selectively decide to be able to memorise a preset, but not remember its last used settings. My case is different in that it didn't develop over time, it was always like that, it's just that I'd never used an 828MkII before so I wasn't sure whether it was supposed to be like that or not.
It may seem like a trivial issue but if you work with headphones, when that sucker comes on at 0dB headphone level you'll soon change your mind! This fault makes the unit effectively useless as a mixer .... what mixer do you know that doesn't remember it's fader settings between power cycles?

Thanks, but that would void my warranty .... this is a brand new unit.
Also, I'm not sure any modern equipment uses battery-backed CMOS memory anymore ..... EEPROMs are better and need no backup power; do you know for a fact that there's a battery in the 828MkII? i.e. have you had one open?

Just an update .... I returned the unit via the store/distributor, got it back about a week ago and have had time now to check every function in detail, and yes it does now retain it's settings after powering off and back on again.
It seems to be the same case but different electronics ... at least, the driver detects it as a different unit even though the case has the same serial number.
