MacBook Pro users
Right when I was getting ready to upgrade to a new MacPro I now find myself also having to get a new laptop since my old iBook just ate it••™s HD for the second time in about six months.
I guess I••™ll just get the 2.2 MacBookPro Intel Core Duo w/2GB of Ram because all I••™ve ever used my laptops for is Email, writing some Word docs and general web-surfing. Since I••™m still going to get the MacPro in the next couple of months to run DP and a few plugins, I••™m wondering if anyone would advice me on if I might be able to also load a copy of DP onto this new MacBook Pro, where I could via a firewire HD holding the audio files, be able to do some ••œat home••

I used DP5 on a macbook pro Core duo for a few days and it was great.
At least as fast or faster than a mid range dual g5 tower.
There are a number of DP users here who use a core 2 duo macbook pro or an imac (macbook w/o wheels, basically) as their main machine. There have been some threads about how happy they are.
Hopefully some will also chime in here.

I run a first generation MacBook Pro (Core Duo, not Core Duo 2).
I do recommend loading up on the RAM. I have a full 2gb in my MacBook.
As I type this, DP is playing 44 tracks from the internal drive with no problems. I do all my tracking and mixing from the internal drive. I only use external drives for short term backup.
Altiverb is in every mix I do. I have yet to hit the wall in terms of tracks and effects. Surround mixing works great.
I use this machine to demo Ethno, MSI, and lately Mach Five 2.
Eleven thumbs up!

Is this a 7200 rpm hard disk or the stock 5400?magicd wrote: As I type this, DP is playing 44 tracks from the internal drive with no problems. I do all my tracking and mixing from the internal drive. I only use external drives for short term backup.
I'm asking because i'm considering getting the new MBP and was wondering whether i needed to change the hard disk that comes with it...
Thank you
Thanks to all for chiming in. I'd also like to know if you MBP users have upgraded to a 7200 rpm internal HD. Coming from a desk top with multi internal HD's and running system separately from audio and VI's, I'm just a little unsure still. So, IS IT SAFE?HooVoo wrote:Is this a 7200 rpm hard disk or the stock 5400?magicd wrote: As I type this, DP is playing 44 tracks from the internal drive with no problems. Well I bought mine with a 5400rpm because they didn't have any other in stock and I neede it fast. Since then I've been supposed to upgrade it but I've always been in the middle of something so I didn't got the chance to do it yet...
Even with the 7200RPM OF COURSE IT'S NOT GOING TO COMPETE WITH A PAIR OF 10RPM HDs.
But I was still able to record a full 8 tracks from my 896HD for two hours straight without any problem.

Update to my original post.
After special ordering a MBP w/7200RPM drive and 4GB of RAM about month ago, I was told it would be back ordered for a couple of weeks. I thought, ok, I can deal with that. Well a couple of weeks turn into three then four. So I canceled my order and just went ahead and popped for a MacPro w/5GB of RAM. As it turns out this will be a much better machine for my needs.
But the story doesn't end there. I received my MP and dual monitors in two days, which was great after waiting a month for the MBP. Then two days later FedX shows up with? you got it, the MBP!
So tomorrow I'm shipping a perfectly good MBP back to where it came from. I wish I could keep it, but having it along with the MP would be just too much of a cash outlay right now.
If anyone is looking for a maxed out MBP, PM me and I'll let you know who the supplier and sales person is. It needs to find a good home.

But if you got that Mac Pro, a simple MacBook might way more than enough to do your Emailing and surfing...whonozz wrote:I guess I••™ll just get the 2.2 MacBookPro Intel Core Duo w/2GB of Ram because all I••™ve ever used my laptops for is Email, writing some Word docs and general web-surfing.
