Inquiring Minds, like me, also want to know. I forgot about this bothersome "feature". Anyone? Anyone? Ferris?markg wrote:Is there a way to disable the extra ports so they don't show up in DP?
In Audio MIDI Setup I added a "YAMAHA ES8" device and connected it to Port 1 of the ES8 interface. This shows up fine in DP but I also get 8 "YAMAHA MOTIF ES YAMAHA MOTIF ES Portx" (one for each port).
Is there someway to remove these extra ports?
Mark
Anyone use the Yamaha USB driver?

I've still got extra PODxt and BassPODxt entries italicized in my MIDI assignment list.
They've been hanging around for a couple of years, and I simply cannot seem to get rid of them.
I would love to learn of a solution.

monkey man, you just reminded me of a possible solution. When I upgraded the firmware on my Digidesign MIDI I/O it created another MIDI interface in Audio MIDI Setup. I was able to remove the old inactive interface by editing one of the XML configuration files. This may work for this too. IIRC it was:monkey man wrote:I've still got extra PODxt and BassPODxt entries italicized in my MIDI assignment list.

Home->Library->Audio->MIDI Configurations->Default.mcfg. You can try copying it to another configuration (i.e. make a backup) and removing the appropriate entries. Then select the new config in AMS.

Dang, and you've just made me realise that this probably all started with the installation of Line6's drivers 2 years ago.
I "had to" install 'em as part of their package that enables firmware updates for the PODs.
Thanks for that; I'll look into it. Yay!

monkey man,
You may simply be able to go into AMS and delete the interface without having to edit the XML file.
By editing the XML file, I was able to remove the "destinations" entries for ports 2-8 so they no longer show up in AMS & in DP. Ahh, much better without all those extra ports cluttering up the interface.

thanks Mark.markg wrote:Peter,
Did you add a MoES device in Audio MIDI Setup and connect it to Port 1 of the MOTIF driver?
Mark
A MOES device was created, but not connected to anything.
considering there is no physical connection,. only virtual.
The device was in DP ports 1- 8, yet when I select it, no patches?
If you would not mind guiding me through the steps you mention, I'd appreciate it greatly.
Thanks
Peter

I'm sorry Mark, I'm a DP & mac novice.markg wrote:Peter,
Make sure the MOES is powered on. Then in Audio MIDI Setup, connect the MOES device in & out to the MOES interface port 1.
Patches should then show up in DP after selecting the MOES device (not the interface port 1) as your MIDI output for a track.
Mark
Right now I have a big 8 port Motif es device in AMS,
you are saying create "new device"
and connect its in & outs to the BIG 8 port USB Motif device?
Than all should work in DP when selecting the newly created device DO NOT select the 8 port Mo device on teh DP MIDI track
it this correct?
thanks again

Peter,
Yes, that is correct. In AMS setup, add a new device and double-click on it to open the device properties. In the configuration dialog, select Yamaha as the manufacturer and select the appropriate model that matches your keyboard . Then connect the device's ins/outs to port 1 of the big Yamaha interface. Finally, in DP select the newly created device and the patches should show up.

Thank you very much Mark,
This helped a lot but some things don't make sense like,
Now, MIDI Patch thru has to be diabled in DP, or I get a bug electrical violin or something,
I have selected " Direct Echo" in DP,
but now the the Motif seems to only wssork as a monophonic axe,
one track goes down and when assigning the 2nd track it has the sound of the first?
gosh, what a novice I am!
Thanks again
best-

No,
song mode still is only playing the same sound mark,. I've been using the Mo for a couple years,. it's just the USB / DP & Mac thing that are throwing me.
I used the USB driver with Nuendo and a windows system, it all worked and seemed to make sense to me a bit better. Being a DP & Mac newbie, there has to be some magic little button I don't have ticked in DP I figure ?
thanks for all the help,
if you happen to think of the magic switch,.. shoot up a flare!

Hi again mark,
I figured out the problem was, MIDI thru,.. now it works still.
I always like not having to deal with Multi record,. that way any of my controllers work as input devices without having to dealk with assignment of MIDI input on each track before recording.
With the USB driver I get a loud spring reverb crashing sound, so I have to use multi record, not that bad I suppose.
Just curious, is this an issue on your DP/ motif rig as well?
many thanks again, big help.
