A few questions after two weeks of use

Hello,

I will soon finish my first track made with DP. This is a long track (about 20 minutes), but besides some minor importing problems (see the topic about importing) I could do all that I wanted, so I am really satisfied with this software. Especially, I was quite amazed about how you can adapt the user interface to your type of work.

I just have a few simple questions about more DP customization for the next projects; if you think I should have put these into different topics, please tell me (in this case, I will delete this topic and create separated ones). Also, if the anwsers are in the manual, please give me the pages as I may have missed them.

All these questions are related to the Sequence window.

1. "Scrubbing"
Quotes are here because I don't know how you call this exactly. When trimming the edges of a soundbite, or when moving some soundbites, you can hear some pitched audio (like in an analogue magnetophone). Is it possible to disable this ? Also, I remarked that it doesn't always happen; is it normal ?

2. Snap the wiper to soundbite limits
We suppose that a track is selected. Is there a keyboard shortcut for moving the "wiper" to the beginning or the end of the next or previous soundbite in the track ? For example, in Cubase you can use the "N" or "B" keys for this.

3. Tempo change
Is it possible to change the tempo without affecting the actual position of the soundbites in the track ? The purpose of this is to change the edit grid resolution at random moments, when working.

4. Realtime soundbite gain
You can change it in the Soundbites Info window, but is it possible to do it directly in the Sequence editor, like you do for trimming the edges of a soundbite ? I'm not talking about the volume automation that affects the mixing faders.

5. Horizontal zoom
When zooming with "Apple key"-right arrow or left arrow AND when a soundbite is selected, the zoom is centered on the beginning of the selected soundbite. Can you disable this or modify this behaviour ?

6. Vertical zoom
Still using the keyboard for zooming, can the vertical zoom be focused on a specific track ? I would like the middle of a chosen track to stay at the center of screen when zooming vertically.

7. Mysterious graphics
Sometimes there are some vertical grey lines on the soundbites (maybe the repreasent the tempo or something related to synchronisation). I'm not talking about the attack detections but about the thin lines. Sometimes, these lines are red. Where is the documentation about all this ? I never used these lines but there must be a reason, for this color change.

OK, here goes...

1. "Scrubbing"

Also, I remarked that it doesn't always happen; is it normal ?

That behaviour happens when you have the audition icon activated (little speaker icon top left corner).

2. Snap the wiper to soundbite limits
We suppose that a track is selected. Is there a keyboard shortcut for moving the "wiper" to the beginning or the end of the next or previous soundbite in the track ? For example, in Cubase you can use the "N" or "B" keys for this.

There's a few ways, heres one; Select the soundbite, hit shift+cntrl+opt+C (memory snaps to the soundbite), then hit cntrl+opt+C (wiper snaps to memory).

You can also use TAB and opt+TAB to move the insertion point to the next soundbite boundary.

3. Tempo change
Is it possible to change the tempo without affecting the actual position of the soundbites in the track ? The purpose of this is to change the edit grid resolution at random moments, when working.

Click on the 'lock' icon in the locked column in the tracks overview, or in Seq editor, select 'locked' from the track pull-down menu. The track then references to real time rather than bars & beats.

There's a 'change soundbite gain' option in the audio menu. I've set opt+B as the key command for it (shift+L for the commands window). It brings up a dialog box where you type in how much gain.

There are key commands you can add to scroll to the beginning or end of the selection. As well as scroll by page and smaller increments. Combinations of these usually make this sort of thing pretty easy to negotiate.

Still using the keyboard for zooming, can the vertical zoom be focused on a specific track ? I would like the middle of a chosen track to stay at the center of screen when zooming vertically.

If you find one, let us know. This annoys me too. Unfortunately I don't think there's a key command to just zoom the selected track and keep it centred.

There's a few different ones. You've got the light blue ones, which are the beat transients. Red ones are tempo/bar marks from when DP has analysed the tempo of a soundbite (I think they mark where the beats of the bar fall in the analysed tempo). There's also ones that appear when you're using 'adjust beats'.

Yes, actually 1074 pages + 14 blank pages at the end, it's a great manual and I think I read it almost entirely but I didn't find these specific anwsers in such a short time (I started to use DP two weeks ago so I am already happy I could make my 20-minute track without any problem).

If you can give me the pages that anwser to these, it's very welcome

- Apple+6 starts playing from end
