HELP-- can't get any rear analog inputs to work!!!

Post by jaypollard »

I'm having a major issue. I just bought a MOTU 828 mkII, installed it and then tried to mic some drums. I used the two front low-z inputs and the #3 1/4 input jack on the back of the unit. The front two inputs work beautifully -- no issues at all. With a dead dynamic mic, rear input #3 registered nothing which was expected but then I ran the mic through a preamp before it went to analog input #3 and it's not coming through either.

I'm using Ableton Live for tracking. I then tried every other rear input with no luck so I figured it wasn't the inputs. Input #3 is definitely enabled in Ableton and I can see the VU on the 828 bouncing so I think the sound is getting through the 828 but it's not showing up in Ableton at all. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. I've used an 828 in a studio many times and would plug all kinds of line level sources into the rear inputs and all I had to do in Ableton was make sure those inputs were enabled. I'm seeing nothing on the Ableton level meter. Does anyone know if I'm missing a setup step here?

Mic -->Preamp-->input #3 on the 828 --->Ableton Live v6 with track armed and input 3 mono enabled.

I'm no expert but this seems pretty cut and dry. As a test, I plugged in a keyboard to #3 via the keyboard's line out jack and still I'm getting no action on the 828. This is really frustrating because the last time I used another 828 (not this one) everything worked flawlessly.

How have you set it up the 828 in the

"MOTU AUDIO SETUP"

application?

Do the inputs work in MOTU CUEMIX CONSOLE?

I see no action at all in the CueMix console. I'm not aware of any MOTU Audio Setup application -- should that have come with the 828 in the box?

Yes in the box -- but I would download the latest firewire audio drivers from the motu site -- should include MOTU audio setup.

I have a similar problem.

Audio apparent on MOTU analog panel. Input and Main Output. Also showing in CueMix but nothing getting through to Logic 7.

If you've found an answer please let me know.

I have redownloaded drive 1.2.5. from MOTO but I can't find any Setup facility either.

Search for "MOTU Audio Setup"

It should be in your applications folder.
