Thanks for the tip. Checked the RAM, all is OK.

System seems fine except for DP.

I can't get the virtual instrument to show up in my Instrument Pull Down.

They are all in my:

Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components folder.

Any idea why they aren't showing up?

Hey, thanks for noticing, fokof!!

If you've reverted to 4.12 you may need to download the DP 4.12 MAS and AU Support Bundle from the MOTU site.

Hey Dan:

I have installed 4.52 and removed all of the plug-ins in the MAS folder. It seems to be much more stable.

All I need now is to get GPO back into the pull-down menu.

When I look in my Library>audio>plug-ins>components folder, all of my virtual synths are there.

None show up in the DP pull down however.

If I could just get GPO to show up I could get back to work!!!

Thanks for the help

Did you download the support bundle and they still don't show? If that's the case, reinstall them.

THAT WAS IT!!

I had removed it when I was testing to see what was causing problems.

After I launched DP 4.52 with it back in the MAS folder, it did the scan and found all of the Virtual Instruments.

DP has been running for over 3 hours now without a hitch so I think the problem is solved.

One question....

When it was scanning it kept skipping many of the Waves Plug-ins I have. Why did it do this?

What does it mean?

Anyway of telling which of the plug-ins is causing the problem without adding them back one by one?

Huge thanks Dan!!

when I had 4.5 and also went back to 4.12 and had MX4 loaded I also have 1 facet missing too - though not sure what or why.....hmmmmm boy the upgrade really corrupted a sweet working 4.12 ---- it is a shame - some upgrade.

I feel terrible for all of the people's problems with this upgrade.....beta testers we are not!

You need the "MAS AudioUnit Support.bundle" to see anything that is Audio Unit. If you want to see if it's a AudioUnit that is faulty , just remove that plug and trash the you/library/preference/DigitalPerformer/AudioUnitInfoCache.
Then reinsert it.

Glad things are working better now. In DP the Waves plugs are MAS plugs. The installer may have installed both for some reason but it's the MAS ones that get loaded.

A good way to figure out which plug is the troublemaker is to throw half of them back in and check the result. If all's well you've ruled out half the plugs. Then throw in half the remainder and see how it goes. Keep doing this until it fails. Remember to keep track of which plugs were in each test group.

Well, it was all too good to last.

All was working fine for about a week of solid use, and then the problem is back. Crashed 4 times today in the span of an hour, and now it even crashed when I was loading the session I have been working on.

I have done NOTHING to my computer in the last week. No installs of any sort. Have the Reason 3.0 upgrade sitting next to the computer but afraid to install it. Could that be the problem?
(Tongue placed firmly in cheek)

What could be going on now?

Check for any extra MIDI drivers in Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers. Conflicts there can cause frequent, seemingly random crashes.

There are some digidesign ones there, but I use them all them time so wont delete them. It worked fine for a solid week, and then suddenly constant crashing again, out of nowhere.

I'm starting to wonder if recent changes to Apple OS might be responsible.

It seems MOTU is dead set on promoting 4.52 regardless of the complaints here so they must have a reliable model working in Boston or somewhere.

Anyway, with all that in mind I loaded a completely different drive with .52 and guess what. Crash city.

It works but when I try and edit or move a soundbite, every hour or so, crash.

When I use DP, any version past 4.5, I save after every change & restart. I haven't had to do that for years.

If it is working on users computers, hats off, but I have been using DP for years and this reliability issue is not to be believed, in my opinion.

I even tried BDE again based on the mgicdave thread and got a few permissions errors when it tried to massage the files and the click never locked to the track recorded click so I gave up on that. You know I renewed permissions from the original Apple disk several times so whatup with that?

I'm going to just shine it on now and get through this record but I have grave doubts about starting another project in DP unless things get a bunch more stable.

I'm still here but waning (not wineing).
