Why are you so cautious about using Disk Warrior?? It's part of my routine. I repair permissions and use Cocktail which cleans the cache, runs cron scripts, prebinds the system and use DW before every major session. Sometimes weekly. Doesn't matter whether the rest of your system is working fine. Running DW won't mess up what is working. If DP isn't running right your system isn't running right. I'm sure it's DP but something is haywire. Don't be afraid of DW.
All the best,

Henry Robinett

That's right, we do, because people need to be reminded that the folks with problems likely represent a relatively small part of the users. People who post on this board generally have problems and are looking for answers, so the impression one can get is that everthing sucks. You see very few posts here from users talking about how great everything's running.

I upgraded to 10.38 this weekend and couldn't boot afterwards so i had to do an install from cd. After getting 10.38 working and installing 4.52 on my machine i was getting instant crashes on my heavier projects. I created a new file, loaded the chunks in and everything is working fine. FWIW 4.52 is fast compared to 4.5, one reason to go there.

motu tech said there is an uninstall on your install disk and that is the best and most complete way - most apps I just trash I tried this once too with motu but they said use the uninstall option on the disk - I love DP and impreseed - but personally and honestly and I realize I will piss most of the people off here - I have had about 50 problems with the upgrade and due to all of this plus losing a 22' piece I worked 5 months on - when I worked on with the new upgrade - did most of it with 4.12....I said enough with the trashy upgrade - and I mean it - I love DP! but give me the older version anyday! just my reality and I have the most basic system of anyone here so I haven't a ton of hardware and limited software too - go figure....

You might have somthing there Fibes. I never tried a new session, just the ones I was workin on at the time. Big sessions over 50 tracks, lots of soundbites 96K 24bit. Hmmm?

Maybe I'll try it again on my next project ground up and see what happens.

Cheers,
Gary

I also tried a new session with 1 MIDI track and as soon as I went to assign a patch in the patch list it crashed.

Just ran Disk Warrior.

It found a few small problems but everything checked out fine.

Booted up 4.52 and it "Unexpectedly Quit" after 3 minutes.

Don't know what else to do.

I am cutting my losses. De-installed 4.52 and going back to 4.12.

Hope they get a working version soon!

Imagine the following ad:

"Introducing DP 5.0!! The result of a year of intense technical development!

NO New Features! Same User Interface!

(but it is more stable under a wide variety of circumstances. and maybe a bit faster.)

UPGRADE NOW!! "

any takers? lot's of new orders?

To Dubaifox : I would definitly try to remove all the plugs in the MAS folder and in the Component folder , just to see if it's a plugin's fault ( as Dan sugested ). I would bet on that!

Fokof:

Right, this is the only thing I didn't try. Just did it and am letting a dummy session run while I eat dinner. See what happens.

Can anyone help me out on my other post here about "Missing Plugs"

When I uninstalled 4.52 and 4.12 the path to all of my virtual instruments was lost.

How do I make them re-appear in the instrument track window?

I have 10.3.8 - 4.5.2 a dual 1.8 and no big probs since 4.1x. When I was having stupid annoying problems it was due to some freebie AUs which I've since removed and no more _major_ probs. Also, I'm happy to say that I never had to do a clean install. DP is _very_ choosey about AU plug ins even if you're not using them. Don't give up. Good Luck.

Well, a dummy session played for about an hour without crashing. That is good news.

What I don't seem to be able to do is find a way to get my virtual instruments to show up again in the "Project>Instrument" pull down. They dis-appeared.

I need GPO.

Re-installing GPO didn't do anything for it either.
