I'm enjoying every replay of the Sox winning the series. Can't wait to collect on a few "friendly" wagers.

It's a very sad day here in NY. I understand there's been a serious run on Humble Pie down at the bakery on the corner.

It was hard for me to root for them after they beat the Angels in three, but I must say that being down 3-0 and coming back to win it was a great thing. Congratulations Boston Redsox!

Hey, Bosox take it this year. they have worked hard for it. Fenway park needs some revitalization
Shame a fan got killed by the police though. And they beat us Detroiters up when we finally won again back in 84....

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
Oh. that hurt.
I cannot look again. I cried this morning when I learned about that. We've got to stop our police from using "non-lethal" weapons, because every one of them has killed someone, and they keep on ignoring the fact that they can be VERY lethal. This is a horrible ending to the amazing Red Sox victory, and if there is anything to lessen the sting, it would be that this girl died on a happy note. She was a Sox fan. But that just doesn't do it. I'm still in disbelief, sad, and angry. We've got to stop those things. Because they're "non-lethal" these guys just fire them indiscriminantly. More and more will die.
Enough said. I can't open this thread again. I'm out.

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
Actually, I have to agree and disagree with Shooshie, we need to train police better regarding the potential effects of non-lethal weapons. A lot of times non-lethal weapons training doesn't cover the "what if" scenarios that police need to be aware of. Non-lethal weapons can be a great tool in the hands of an educated individual, but Shoosie has a good point, sometimes it's too easy to just fire without concern. It also is not realistic to give police two options, your fists or your gun. Having a number of options to choose from is helpful, you just need to know what really can result from the use of a non-lethal. Anyway, this has very little to do with DP 4 or 4.5, but is an important topic nonetheless.

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
Hey guys... we do not have a "politics" forum here any more, and a thread that I started that was just about "hooray for the Sox" is pushing perilously near a discussion of the use of police force in crowd control, etc. Let's steer away from that please. Thanks. Secondly, depending on bandwidth issues, I may try and turn off the option of placing large images within messages.

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
Okay... I don't know how this happens, but I'm going to avoid any and all off-topic posts. I started a Hooray for the Sox and now I've got a big photo posted of a presumeably dead girl in the thread, someone who doesn't want to come back in this topic again, and a generally bummer feeling. A thread has been turned into something of a political discussion.
The UnicorNation is back up for a few days and already I'm faced with a dilemma. What do I do? Leave it up and hope maybe people turn it back into "Yay Sox!" again? Delete the topic (and generate hate email)? Delete the posts (and generate more hate email)?
It's obvious to me that having a little fun and posting something as seemingly innocuous as a little note about the Red Sox victory is all it takes to open the door just enough for this. Seems there is always a tragedy following a major victory by a sports team, and now it is brought here in living color.
For the future, I am turning off the ability to post images in the messages. Not really because of this post, but I had intended to all along and somehow missed that setting. I will probably kill this thread in a few days since it is now such a bummer. I guess even the most innocent OT post has the potential to become a drag. It's unfortunate.

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
While it's a worthwhile topic, I agree it's probably not appropriate for this forum, and smart of you to limit off-topic posts.
I am curious about putting photos in a msg. however, and would love some way of maintaining this feature. What if there was a size limit for the photos?
The reason I'm bringing this up is that when I found out (via this thread) that you could post photos, I thought that it might be a great way to show each other solutions to technical problems and/or provide interesting information about MOTU products?
Thanks for moderating James, I don't envy your dilemmas.

Re: In honor of the folks in Cambridge...
Thanks, Richard. I was thinking the same thing you were about the benefits of having images in the posts and how a diagram or photo could help tremendously in explaining a technical concept, etc. I'm leaning now toward allowing them, but setting up some guidlines perhaps. For example a limit on the pixel dimensions and also size in KB of the graphic images.Originally posted by Richard Temple:

The other aspect is the potential for misuse by simply posting things like photos of one's studio to show off gear, the new car they're proud of, or self-promoting by putting a big pic of your new CD in a message, etc. I would have to formulate some practical rules as to what kind of images could be posted and disseminate that information on the board, and then stay on top of it to prevent improper postngs. *SIGH*
A poster who has a web site always has the option of posting a link to the photo rather than having the photo display in the message. The photo would have to reside on a server somewhere anway, as you don't upload an image to us, you link to an existing photo that's already on the net somewhere.
Oh well... it's Day 4? More food for thought...
