I received my upgrade from soundtrack to STP and yes, it handles sony acid just fine. I know that was a concern around here, that the pro version did not handle acid files well but I found it not to be the case. I also imported a stereo file and played around with it a bit. STP does have a lot of the emagic and logic plugins built in, as well as recognizing third party plugs, such as Auto tune 4, fishblock, etc. It did not recognize DP's plugs though-
I used the pop remover as the file I imported had a few pops I wanted to take out but eventhough it said it recognized a number of pops and remove them, that wasn't really the case as the pops were still there in the file. That was evident when I ran the pop remover again and it recognized the same pops- I removed them again and nothing happened. I did run the files through some of the plugins and that was fine.
The interface is a little friendlier than in the original Sound Track. It was easier to get around. obviously I have not had enogh time to dig deep into the program, but off hand I say that I got the hundred bucs worth that the upgrade cost me and probaly much, much more. One drawback is that it automatically installed the apple loops in my main drive and I have my other loops in anothe drive. I'm gonna have to look for them and move them. Also, I don't know but they are probably the same loops that came with the original. the good thing, though, is that they are organized by categories already in the loop window and that is a great plus. I haven't tried it with Final Cut yet but that is supposed to be improved as well.
I wonder if there is a way to import STP plugins and use them with DP? That alone would be worth the cost of admission as some of the plugs are very good.

Re: Soundtrack pro
Xavier, do you have anything with continuous noise--say, air conditioner, tape noise, wind noise, motor noise--you could try removing?

I could record something with an airconditioner on... I know that the pop remover did not work too good for me- I have a session all day tomorrow but maybe Sunday I could try the airconditioner-Originally posted by Shooshie:

Re: Soundtrack pro
and how can we get DP to see STP's plugs?Originally posted by 666:
That's because DP's plugins are MAS, not AU or VST.Originally posted by maintiger:
It did not recognize DP's plugs though-

Re: Soundtrack pro
I just UG to STP from ST 1.2. i used ST 1.2 for building musical pieces and while it had limitations, it worked well and best of all intuitively. i eagerly UG to STP looking forward to the editing and recording enhancements.
now i may be missing something, but it seems that a major feature of ST 1.2 no longer exists in STP. and that makes it almost useless to me.
in ST 1.2 i could browse all of my personally created and widely gathered loop libraries (aiff/wav) and they would play as loops, adjusted to the beat. i could preview loops easily to see it they fit into the overall piece just by choosing them in the browser.
in STP, all my loops other than apple loops (whcih i don't use) now play as unlooped one-shots. i thought that maybe i had not turned something on in the preferences but after searching high and low, it seems that this feature no longer exists in STP. or i can't find it.
sure, i can open the unlooped file i want on the timeline and turn it into a loop. or i can open all these files in ST utility app and tag turn them into apple loops. but that would be extremely time consuming since i have many thousand of loops most already in tagged loop format (various librabries etc) . it seems that i can;t use my audio files in the way i've had in ST 1.2
if this is a feature of STP and not idiocy on my part, it is a huge oversight or downgrade.
franly i'm surprised no one else has commented on this. it's not a problem if you use only non-loop recordings, but of you treat your files as loops, it is a problem.
any help would be appreciated.
thank you
M

Re: Soundtrack pro
Don't put yourself out over it. Just when you have the time, and when the curiosity strikes you as well. But that's a feature I really need for it to do well if I'm going to buy it. Otherwise, I've got to save that money and apply it to the Waves Restoration Bundle, or at the worst, Soundsoap. But I'd 10 times rather buy Soundtrack Pro, because of all that it does. I'll probably get it anyway sometime in the not-so-distant future, but for right now it hinges on the noise reduction features.Originally posted by maintiger:

After spending a long day with STP I can confirm that this is indeed a "feature" - there is no way to turn non-looped files into looping files other than using Apple Loops Utility or by dragging files into the timeline and turn them into loops there. What's worse is that STP does not (as far as I can tell) recognize looped files created in other software such as Peak.
I love a lot of things about STP but it is a loop management system designed to integrate with video, rather than a loop creation/editing system. For an app that has so many features, its complete lack of crossfade looping is just amazingly stupid, and knocks it out of the running as a true sound designer's tool, contrary to Apple's claims about it.

Without any surround capabilities it's hard to see as a professional sound editor for HD video.
