Do the New vista drivers work for a PCI-324?

I Have a PCI-324 sitting in a box as i upgraded to a 424 but am thinking of running my spare machine as a vista experiment before i move over from XP,
Im hoping to use the 324 to save taking my 424 out of my current machine just yet,
Can anyone tell me if the new vista drivers work with the 324 ?
The only difference i noticed with the 324 and 424 in XP was a slightly different cuemix console and it wasn't really worth the upgrade as they both worked just as well as each other,

Anyone tried the 324 with vista?

The PCI 324 card is not supported under Windows Vista OS.

Did motu give you this info? as the driver release notes don't mention what specifically is or isn't supported,
it just says all current hardware is supported.

The 324 is not current hardware, so it would not fall in the category of "supported under Vista."

That said, you can use 324-based interfaces (2408mkII, etc.) with the 424 card, so you only have to upgrade the card to move up to Vista.

Yes i understand that,
As i mentioned above i have seen no word from motu of what isnt supported, and i just wanted to know if anyone had heard it from motu specifically or tried it for them selves not speculation or opinions.

Yes, I work for MOTU, so yes, if I say the PCI 324 card is not supported under Windows Vista OS, that is an official word from MOTU. Sorry for the confusion. I'll update my user profile.

The PCI 324 card has been discontinued for some time. It no longer works on most current Windows motherboards. If you have a PCI 324 card, you can upgrade it to the 424 model for $295.00 by calling MOTU at 617 576 2760.

The 424 card is available in PCI-e and PCI-X formats.

The 424 card is compatible with all current Windows motherboards.

All older MOTU PCI based audio interfaces work with the 424 card and therefore work with the latest Vista 32 and 64 bit OS.

The 424 card supports up to four rack interfaces.

The 424 card provides a direct (no CPU load or latency) input to output monitor mix accross all connected interfaces. This mix is controlled from CueMix software or a Mackie Universal Control protocol control surface.

So is it safe to assume that the 324 I just bought from a friend is not going to work with my abit KN9 SLI motherboard? Just now trying to install using current software for XP-324 from MOTU's site I get the following:

MOTU PC Audio Console error:

An error has occurred in the Audiowire driver: the Audiowire driver was not found (18)

PCI-324 Cuemix Console error:

Couldn't successfully startup or quit the application because The Audiowire driver was not found (18)

That's because my motherboard is too new? bummer..please confirm. If that's the case, will MOTU sell me a 424 even though I'm a second hand owner? If you think the motherboard/324 compatibility is NOT the issue, what might be goiving me that error. Machine is not great but pretty strong: AMD 64 Dual core, 2 gig ram, nVidia SLI bridged, SATA drives. Any help would be graciously appreciated.

I have a Gateway PC (See Below) and I have had no problems running the 324 on it with Windows Vista.

The error messag came up on the boot up post screen saying that the bios was too old or something but it was actually the latest bios it just did not like the 324, the 424 works fine.

Fishmed are you using the xp 324 drivers or the latest 424 vista drivers?
And are you sure your card is a 324 and not a 424 ?
How many audiowire ports does it have 3 or 4 ?

I had bought an original 2408 when they first came out years ago, so unless the "Fairy MOTU Fairy" visited my PC last night I still have the 324.

I believe I installed the XP 324 drivers. I went ahead and gave it a shot because I really did not want to have to upgrade my card, at least for now. I PM'ed magicd about the differences between the various cards, and it did not sound like there was any reason for me to upgrade at this time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now my Alesis FST program is giving me some heck, but that is another story.

My PC has 2 PCI and one PCIe slots for me to use. I want ot get some UAD cards so I was juggling the various options I could go with. My main consern was if the 424 PCIe had more "Bandwidth: than the 424 PCIX or even the 324. Magicd did not mention this so I am assuming there is no differnce there. I am using SONAR to do all my fadder settings, so I don't know of any reason why I would need to use the new mixer on the 424 cards.

I have some other PC's at home im going to try the 324 in and see what happns just for fun, i never thought it was worth wasting the time on it before when everyone was so negative about the idea.
Did the xp driver throw up any errors in vista during the install?

Hey no problem.

It came up like a champ with no issues at all. My old PC (Dual PIII 733) had XP and SONAR 4 did not work well with the 2408. During that time, I just used the 2408 to convert the ADAT to TDIF I/O between my HD24 and DDX3216 mixer. With my new PC and SONAR 6 everything works great so I am going to start mixing from SONAR out to a mixer like I used to do. I will still track the performances through the HD24 as I still do not trust Windows reliability.
