It is my understanding that those mixes made the Guinness Book of World Records for the lowest dynamic range of any recording up until that time.

Hey, it's even more effective if you suck it up through your nose, jsd540. :D

I've heard that a little caffeine can facilitate squeezing that last poofteenth of a dB out of your dynamic range. :?

Will the MW Limiter do anything if you already record with volume on 11?

I'd speculate that if you cranked the MWL all the way and snorted the caffeine as per my suggestion, you'd have to at least come close.

The trouble you'll have here is that 11 is hard to beat.
That's why the Spinal Tapsters hit a brick wall at 11. :?

Since I have been using MW Limiter 3x in series with MW EQ at +12 across all frequency bands, my yard has never looked better.

after the 3x mwlimiter, and mweq, you should put several instances of bitcrusher. this will vastly increase your headroom and keep down all those rowdy bits in front...
for those purists that prefer the sound of an analog leafblower or chainsaw, this ain't the ticket. it works for me, though, as i tend to prefer the tone of early-80's 4 bit digital weedwhackers. though, there truly is nothing that sounds quite like a well-tuned leafblower...

Your volume goes up to 11? Mine only goes up to 10.99999999...

It's that last little trillionth that does the trick. Just don't go over that, or you'll have hell to pay in the mastering session.

Well, bradswan, I'll bet they'd sound at least 15 times more like a leafblower. :D

My goodness! This modern technology! Getting a volume knob to actually go up to 11. That's a full number past the maximum standard. How DO they do it? ;)

Shooshie

[edit] wait a minute.... I didn't see no 11 in the picture. Is this some kind of a joke? There's a band called Spinal Tap. Now THEIR equipment actually DOES go to 11. I saw it once in a movie. Really. I mean, they actually showed it. It was awesome, dude. I'd try to get that system in my DAW, but DP actually goes even farther. It goes into the 60's or 80's or something. But their engineers must have been high. They got it backward. To make it louder, you have to turn it down to zero. I just tell people it's a new scientific system whereby less is more. And they STILL want it to go up to 11. Just can't please some folks.

;) ;)
