(I/O 24 + Cubase) Help me get my head round this please

Post by musicmad »

theres just so many inputs, level settings and outputs involved here that i've gone and gotten myself a bit confuzzled on how to obtain the best audio output levels when recording via the I/O 24 in Cubase SX3.

I use a bunch of external hardware synths etc... and the tracks i'm working on are all currently laid out in Cubase.

I've also setup the buses for the Motu and all is fine, I am able to convert my MIDI tracks to audio just great. Except for the audio levels, they are far too low, and so much so that I can hardly see the wave graphic when I double click to open up one of the audio tracks.

I'm generally new to audio recording in Cubase and would really appreciate some hints from any of y'all on how to obtain the best and cleanest levels?

Do I want to make sure that the volume levels in my external hardware are as max as possible?

I have all channels maxed in the Cuemix console
Does it help to raise all of the input trims too? (can also cause hiss/noise)

Audio tracks in the mixer in Cubase, should I be looking at raising the Input channel levels? The output channel levels? The audio channel levels?

I'm sure you can see where i'm coming from.

Can you help me please?

Do they sound like they're too quiet, or do the waveform displays just look "short".

If it's just the display, theere's a slider in the upper right of the main window, that adjusts the visual display height.

Hi Larry, the quietness is the main thing.
