10.4.11 On the way??

Post by Frodo »

I'm just starting to snoop around for info, but found this interesting enough to post here..... NOTE: These are reader reports, fwiw...
Rob Terrell @Macintouch.com wrote: I've just gotten off the phone with Apple support and they've confirmed that the 10.4.10 update is buggy, and another update is in the works.

The tech I spoke with recommended that I archive-install 10.4.6 and update only to 10.4.9 using the manually downloaded updaters on Apple's web site.

After the update was installed, I got random kernel panics on two previously solid MacBook Pros. The /Library/Logs/panic.log file on both shows a kernel crash in "com.apple.iokit.IO80211Family". For both laptops, the kernel panic has only happened when on wireless using the battery. (So far.) My wife's Mac has been useless since the update -- six kernel panics (and associated lost data) in a day and a half. I've had a little better luck, but I've had two kernel panics since I installed it yesterday.

If you haven't updated, I would recommend holding off for a while longer.

...and just when I was beginning to really take a liking to X4X. How about OS X4, Mach 11?

Not yet-- There is already a new iPhone in the works, and other iToys are likely to either appear or see updates.

So odd-- everytime something goes wrong with my computer all I can think of is iPhone and iTV... (grrr...)

But whatever's wrong with 10.4.10, Apple had better get it right before Leopard comes out. By then they won't update Tiger any more and those who are not interested in moving to Leopard are going to be left hanging (that is-- those other than the ones who are not having trouble with 10.4.10).

I was only kidding about the numbering just being confusing to me at first glance. Cocoa reads both 10.4.1 and 10.4.10 the same (as '1041')?

And if there is a 10.4.11 to come-- guess what? the string will still be read as 1041 unless Apple changes the way Cocoa reads these strings.
