Disappearing HardDrive icon ?

Post by TOD »

I booted up my G4 dual 450 today and my main hard drive, (with OsX) is gone. My other Sata drive and firewire drive appear. When i run disc utility it shows the drive but It doesn't give my the option to mount it?

any ideas?

Thanks.

Tod

Hi

Take a look at the Finder Preferences.

If that doesn't solve it, try this:

Hi Jarok, Thank you for the pink mutant link.... I've been trying to figure a way to 'hide' my back up drives, to clean up my desktop. That works coolio, I wrote myself a little script to hide all bu drives, and then another one to show all back up drives, for when I want to see them. Thanks for all your great tips!
Hey Tod, I wanted to let you know, your headphone cable seems to be unplugged... :)

I was having this exact same problem. I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple tech support and they couldn't solve it. Then, recently, I read about a program called PathFinder. It's kind of an alternative finder, but it lets you view hidden icons and unhide them if you wish. Sure enough, there was my hard drive icon, hidden. How it got that way I'll never know. But I just unhid it and the problem was solved. It's got some other nifty features also that the Tiger finder doesn't have. Like a "move to..." command, which lets you move files without having to open multiple windows and drag. It cost about $35 bucks, so I guess it was worth it. Anyway, it solved my problem.
