No playback sound from MIDI track
How do I get DP to playback MIDI notes recorded to a MIDI track? I have a Keystation 88 connected to a G4 (OS Panther 10.3/533/512mb/40GB) via USB. I see recorded MIDI information in DP but, no MIDI activity light (the green lights). Clicking test device , in the setup window, works with my keyboard and speaker. I am new to DP, so bear with me. I am reading the manual feverishly. I just got it two days ago.
Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
I'm having the same problem. The data shows up in DP, but it does not come out of my amp. My keyboard is hooked up to my amp correctly because when I put GLOBAL on with my keyboard, it plays correctly. It's just with the MIDI.

Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
It seems sacmann that Audio/MIDI Setup (AMS) is correctly configured since it tests OK. When you assign a MIDI track's output in DP to the Keystation, what exactly are you assigning it to? That is, what does the popup assignment menu say?
Have you tried other MIDI channels besides channel #1? I'm guessing that the test in AMS sends notes on multiple channels and that's why you're able to hear output on the Keystation. Have you tried sending the MIDI track's output to Keystation - Omni (I'm not in front of DP at the moment and can't remember if that's actually an available choice on DP's MIDI Outputs...it is available with MIDI Inputs when Multi-record is enabled IIRC...).

Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
from my knowledge, I'm not using a ""keybank"" or any of what you mentioned...:-/
It just seems to be a hookup problem...or maybe a setting problem. Can you help me out with more basic terms?

What synth are you using then? Is it connected via USB, or through a MIDI interface? First step is to make sure it's working with CoreMIDI. To do that, you'll do what sacmann's done. Launch Audio/MIDI Setup (it's in Applications/Utilities I think...) and, in there somewhere, is an option to test the device. AMS will send random MIDI notes to your synth when you click it's icon with your mouse. If you hear notes there, then we can move forward to the next step.
Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
I'm running os 9.2.1 with digital performer 3. I am using a MOTU MIDI interface, around 130 bucks, installed, called "Fastlane USB." It's connected VIA usb where I have my printer and speakers hooked up to (with a USB extension). USB 1.0, I'm sure, but it's worked PLENTY fast in the past, it's just no longer working...and I haven't used this hookup in a while so I'm sure i've just done something wrong or not done something I should have.
I'm using "FreeMIDI" software as an OS 9 version of the OS X's MIDI configuration thing in the apps>utilities menu.
Using a korg n264, and I have all my keyoard settings correct (global off, patch info correct, etc...). The korg is hooked up to an amp through a guitar/keyoard amp cable (if that's at all relevant). THe sound output is working fine from my keyboard to my amp, because when I turn the GLOBAL on, my keyboard is audible. But of course, for MIDI, I need to turn global off and rely on DP for patch information.
I'm quite sure my setup is as it was a few months ago, when it worked just fine. But something's missing, it seems.
I hope my explanation can help you give me an answer
And thanks for helping so far!

Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
Oh man, I haven't used MacOS 9.x since DP2.7 a couple years ago so I'm not going to be any help. Sorry! One thing you might try is to connect the FastLane directly to the Mac (no extension cable, and no USB hub) and remove any unneeded extensions if you haven't done so already. Good luck!

Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
I believe I have the same problem.
I see the MIDI IN light flickering when I play a note on the keyboard but the MIDI OUT light not turning on. I have MOTU 828 and FASTLANE USB for MIDI interface. I tried both to my MIDI keyboard but same result. When I record on DP the data is there but when I playback I don't hear anything...
PLEASE HELP...

Re: No playback sound from MIDI track
1. What outputs are you "monitoring" on? i.e your audio interface.
2. Are you set up for "Multi Record"?
3.Have you checked what type of "monitoring" is required in DP prefs?

Have you tried toggling the "THRU" button on the front of your fastlane?
