We can't seem to make Motu 24I/O work!!! (fixed-bad unit)

Post by Jigo »

It's been a couple of days since we tried to install the 24i/o in conjunction with PCI424.

We followed the installation process for Windows and this is what we've got so far:

Upon clicking:

MOTU PCI AUDIO SETUP : Configure Interface "BLANK", Audiowire - "0"

MOTU PCI Cuemix Console: WINDOW POPPED UP.

MOTU PCI SMPTE Setup: WINDOW POPPED UP.

But when trying to access MOTU Audio Setup, Cuemix Console and SMPTE Setup... It says, "NO MOTU DEVICE FOUND"

We have tried using the firewire cable that came along with the package and tried two other brandnew firewire cables we got from a local store with the same results.

The manual gives just a simple instruction to install first the driver for PCI424 prior to the installation of the PCI Card itself.

Are we missing something?

The MOTU 24I/O displays a continuous blinking of Clock at 44.1kHz.

Hope you guys can extend help on this matter.

Thanks in advance...

Did you install the drivers first? The drivers should be installed before the pci-424 card.

aaah my problem is solved, after installing DP5 i decided to give it one more try , so i plugged the card back in the slot, booted up turned on my 24 i/o , and boom there it was, restarting to check if it would keep detecting it and it stays, i dont for sure if you need to install a program wich can work with the hardware you are using first in order for the 424 and 24 i/o to work,,,dunno but worked for me

When the following is seen:

" MOTU PCI AUDIO SETUP : Configure Interface "BLANK", Audiowire - "0"

you can be sure that there is NO connection between the PC, the Interface
unit and the MOTU PCI-424 card. Often the Audiowire is reported as
having no driver in the same instance (even when you KNOW you
have loaded the drivers BEFORE you installed the PCI-424 card!).
Make sure that you have the 24 I/O unit connected to the correct port on
the PC424 card, i.e. the one at the *bottom* of the card (nearest the
PCI slot) using the lead they supply.

Best solution is to move the PCI-424 card to a different PCI(-X) or
PCIe slot on the motherboard. I have had to do this twice, both times
when loading onto a new PC.

If your board has PCIe slots, be sure to use the correct MOTU card;
and if only PCI "legacy" or the newer PCI-X slots, you must use the
"original" PCI-424 card.

The above is almost 100% the reason that the "Configure Interface"
window is BLANK when you open the Audio Console of the 24I/O.

Good luck, Jim

Hi Guys!

Thank you so much for taking time to help me on this.

After my post here, we gave ourselves another month to make the Motu work. Then we decided to call up Sweetwater where we got the unit. They adviced us to send the unit back to them.

When the 24I/O came back, it worked the moment we installed it. Flawlessly.

We asked Sweetwater how they made the Motu work? They admitted that they repaired something inside the 24I/O box.

Sorry though for not having checked this thread for a long time. But I have tried similar steps in the past. Plus, the unit already worked before any of your posts were made.

Dirk, if you have exhausted all your means and nothing seems to work... Try calling your vendor. And pray that they can help you.

Great news, Jigo.
As a 24I/O owner myself, it's encouraging to see this.

It's also very cool that Sweetwater was so accommodating. :D

Glad to hear it worked out. Many question why we go through the massive expense to have our own in-house, fully-staffed and heavily experienced technical support and service department--- that's the reason, to take care of our clients as fast as possible. I'm going to stand on my soapbox here.... but you really don't find this anywhere else, so I'm proud that we do offer that kind of service.

Sorry, I'll go back to my corner now
Thank you,

Having dealt with Brad, I've first hand experience of Brad's/Sweetwater's swiftness.
They don't muck around, these folks.
