WAVES and INTEL-MACS and DP5..does it work or not?
ok, so i've read up on this matter and it appears i can use waves with dp5 and an intel mac with the AU version of the plugs..i'm not concerned about losing old MAS presets cause i'm keeping my current computer intact ( dual 1.25 G4 with Mac OS9.2 ) and available in my studio for the immediate future anyway..so AU's will work? someone correct me and save me from myself if i'm wrong..i'd like to buy the Platinum Bundle and the SSL Bundle next week..really really need RenComp / L1 / TrueVerb to be working once i buy.... thanks / wes@polysound.com

At this point in time the answer is yes and no - depending on who's answering.
I'm having acceptable results on Intel and PPC platforms, both with AUs only. Others will have a different story to tell.
If you're hoping someone can reassure you and thereby encourage you to spend I'd have to say that no-one would be in a position to do so at this time.
As I said I'm having acceptable results with my Waves AUs but you may find the experience to be less satisfactory.
Good luck,
DD

Lots of stuff and a recently acquired ability to stop buying
I took the waves plugins off my Mac Pro completely for a while, but then re-installed them after some folks reported having no problems. I found that some plugins seem to work fine and others seem to crash pretty consistently. For instance, C1 seems to work OK but doubler always crashes after a few minutes of use.

my experience with the Waves AU's: usable, but pretty buggy. Tune and IR-L don't work at all for me; most of the rest work but occasionally act weird; Doubler crashes and burns frequently. I now print every track with Waves plugs, on the assumption that someday I may not be able to use those plugs or recreate the settings or something.
As the months grind on without a fully working OS10.4.9/Intel Waves product, I've become quite disillusioned with Waves, the company. I've been using Waves for six years, but I'm pretty much ready to start swapping out for other plugs. If Leopard starts up a whole new cycle of Waves being behind the ball and not having a working product, I'm moving on...
Still the best plugs for what they do.

I am using the Waves Logic AU version of Gold bundle. All is working fine except Waves Tune, can't get it to work. I too am very tired of waiting... and waiting... and waiting. I emailed waves through the support site email and got a response, they said they were proud to be one of the first companies with support out for the new Intel Macs. Well, we don't have support!!! I guess they must have been talking about Pro tools or Logic. I guess they don't consider us important enough. I don't know, me I think I will be getting a Focusrite Liquid Mix and seeing how that replaces most of my Waves. I am ready to move on to other companies that will stand behind their products and their customers. They say that they have, I guess they don't read this forum!!!

I just sent them a message too, giving them a little grief for their recent update b.s. It is really getting tiresome. Especially when you have so much invested in a product that doesn't work. I have Diamond, SSL, Tune and a new Intel 2.66 sitting there unused until this issue gets resolved. I understand that the Logic AU's wok for some, but I'm not interested in workarounds. My studio si way too busy for that kind of experimentation. Sure hope it's soon!

Call Waves and ask them specifically if that will work. Try to find someone else who is using it on the same model of computer you'll be using. Don't assume anything; get facts.polysoundman wrote:what about the Waves SSL bundle with macintel and DP5? i've tried these on a macmini nonintel box and the compressor sound of these plugs is just so sexy..i've considered buying just the SSL plugins and maybe a few sony oxford plugs and a few wavearts plugs in the meantime / wes@polysound.com

Those plugs should work fine on a non Intel Mac, but when you load them on an Intel Mac, that is when the trouble can start. They may work fine or they may not work fine. Nobody can say for sure. Waves does not support anything for DP on the Intel Mac so you would be on your on if you decide to purchase it and put it on an Intel Mac. You might could get some support from them, I have read on here where some have. If you have not purchased anything as of yet, I would suggest trying the Focusrite Liquid Mix, I do not own one yet, but have read and heard many great things about it. Plus, it has it's own DSP powered control box that does not use your computer's CPU. Which could leave you room to run some more nice plugs, real nice ones on an Intel Mac! Call up Waves and ask, Just as Shooshie suggested, then when they tell you that they do not support DP under Mac Intel, say well I will buy something else! They will tell you that they are working on it, but they don't know when it will be done. Six months ago, I thought I had plenty of time to get the update and that they would have the update before my Waves update Plan ran out. Well it ran out 6-07-07 and no update for DP yet!! I could not believe it! I am not going to give them any more money!!!

One thing you might can try, at your own risk of coarse, is to demo the waves before you buy them. If you have already bought the Mac intel then just try to demo the waves sfuff and see if you can get it to work. that might be a way to see if Waves would work for you.alright..i'm just gonna try the wave arts / sony oxford stuff for awhile and come back and visit this issue when waves makes a move..i'd really like to continue using waves stuff though..i've heard the SSL compressors and they're amazing..my main waves plugs are RenComp / L1 / TrueVerb..if i had these and the SSL plugs working on my new IntelMac, i'd buy them THAT DAY!! i think what we're all learning here is don't get rid of your old computer for awhile......

It is true that Waves does not support DP 5.1 or higher on an Intel Mac, but they actually do not support 5.1 or higher on PPC as well. For those of you that already have Waves plug-ins, try pulling the Waveshell.bundle file out of your MAS folder (Hard Drive-->Library-->Audio-->Plug-ins) and then deleting the Audio Unit Info Cache file from your Preferences folder (Your User Account-->Library-->Preferences-->Digital Performer TM). The Audio Units should then be scanned upon launching DP.
This can sometimes fix instabilities, but sometimes even the Audio Unit versions will exhibit similar behavior to the MAS versions.
