No fair! I had to go back and edit the " ' " many times whilst formulatin' that post, and one still sneaked through. Doh!MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Wow! A 24 foot monitor. I've never had a Mac keyboard that posed entry problems 'till I got this schmicko new-fangled white thingo. The arrow keys went first, followed by the control, option, command and shift keys. Seems the more they're used the clunkier they become. The ol' transparent and graphite 'boards didn't do this, at least not for me.
That's it; I'm goin' back in time on a mission to erase the mistake and therefore change the course of the future.
Watch me, as I disprove the long-held belief that such things aren't possible.
Watch now... watch... ... OK, you can check the post now.
What 24 foot monitor, Magilla? You're trippin', bro'.

I decided to go with the 30. If I get cramped, I could always save up for a second one or two but I noticed that whenever I have two monitors I tend to fixate on only one anyhow. If I go multiple, I'd likely have to go for 3, fixate in the middle, and then put extra stuff on the outboards.
Of course, at some point they begin to blanket the monitors.
Al Gore seems to have that sort of setup.

3 won't be an option any time soon, and you've articulated one of my fears SixStringGeek.SixStringGeek wrote:... but I noticed that whenever I have two monitors I tend to fixate on only one anyhow. Looks like a single 30" may suit me better too.
Dang, still confused, but plenty of time to choose...

The Gore shot finally loaded.
How's the state of the place?
No wonder he can't see the wood for the trees.
Trust me 'Cornies, I can rip this guy to shreads so I feel somehow entitled to make that judgement.
Actually, it was only a joke. OK, so I feel somehow entitled to make that joke.
Still feel bad though.
Note to self: Even if you feel entitled to do so, resist concocting jokes about ex-politicians.

30 arrived today and I set it up (dual quad expected in two days). I'm still shifting components around looking for the right feeling setup.
I was right I think - given how close my monitors are (5'-ish sided equilateral triangle) and the how close the monitor is (about 3'), there is just enough room to keep the monitors clear of the monitor. In fact, I brought them in a bit so they are slightly behind and outboard of the screen and it seems like a win. Two 23's side by side would have been too wide for my little room (guess I could have stacked them vertically).

Cool! So you got the Dell 30"? Please do tell me... exactly how wide is the entire monitor itself physically? I just had a very frustrating phone call yesterday with Dell, because their specs on their web site list the width of the monitor as 22". I kid you not. However their 27" monitor shows a width of 25" or so. When I called them and asked about this and that it did not seem to make sense, I got some bizarre giberish about "viewing angles" etc. So I said to the guy again... "I don't understand. How is it that a 27" monitor is 25" wide and the 30" monitor is 22"? That can't be right?"SixStringGeek wrote:30 arrived today and I set it up (dual quad expected in two days). In the end I hung up the phone in frustration. I can't see how it's possible that the Dell 30" WS monitor measures just 22" across.

Isn't it just that they're measuring them diagonally, Jimbo?James Steele wrote:In the end I hung up the phone in frustration. I can't see how it's possible that the Dell 30" WS monitor measures just 22" across.

I think he's being mesmerized by data overload whilst at the same time feeding his ego.

I got the Apple 30 - but I think they are made by the same component maker so they're probably about the same size.James Steele wrote: Cool! So you got the Dell 30"? I just had a very frustrating phone call yesterday with Dell, because their specs on their web site list the width of the monitor as 22".
The screen frame is 27.5" wide overall x 18" high. The stand holds it about 3-4" off the table.
I've now got about 8" between inner edges of monitor speakers and edges of screen.

Thank you so much!! I defy ANYONE to go to the Dell site and find this information. It says 22" in the specs and calling up Dell got me some maroon who couldn't give me this information and tried to tell me it was 22" and I KNEW this was not possible. Then he tried to say it was due to "viewing angle"... etc...SixStringGeek wrote:The screen frame is 27.5" wide overall...
*SIGH* Finally, a simple question answered that Dell was unable to about their own product. Sheesh!!!

** PRICE DROP **
Just noticed that Dell dropped the price of the 30" widescreen monitor by $230. It is currently $1,269. I called them and they gave me 90 days no interest so I ordered it.
Footnote: I am no currently in panic mode searching my house and garage and mentally tabulating how much I can sell and what I can get for it to offset this insanity. My Marshall DSL backup head may go as I hardly use it and my old 1224. Thinking of dumping my NS10Ms as I never use them, but hesitating since you can't buy them anymore and they just keep appreciating.
