The odd thing to me is that the disckwelder software only works on a PC. So, their promotion with Digital Performer (whose users frequently only have MACs) leaves me scratching my head.

Here is a paragraph and details from the discwelder site
With discWelder Bronze, you can import all Linear PCM formats supported in the DVD-A specification, including non-encoded/ uncompressed surround (consisting of up to 6 channels of 24-bit, 48KHz audio), and/or high-resolution stereo (two channels of 24-bit, up to 192KHz audio), in WAV or AIFF file format. Surround and stereo tracks may be used on the same disc, and a discWelder-burned disc will play on any DVD-A player that supports DVD-R/RW.

System Requirements: Windows 98, 2000, NT, XP; 128 MB RAM; 10 GB disc space; Supported DVD-R/RW drive
Regards,

Brian Ralston

It appears that the software is Windows only:

Minnetonka will update their website at some point. DiskWelder is indeed available for Mac. If you want the free trial version, you have to get it through the MOTU web site.

Has anyone gotten BRONZE to work? I gotta tell ya, I was pretty excited to see DVD-A authoring on a MAC. The format is awesome, but I've always had to xfer to PC to run WaveLab 5 to burn DVDA.

I downloaded the demo and was able to launch BRONZE on my G4 laptop (10.4) and while it's not much to look at, it seemed easy enough to use. First, I couldn't get BRONZE to recognize AIFF or WAV files from an external FW drive (it could see them, but they were greyed out as if they were the wrong format). Then the interface just hung.

After force quitting, rebooting, I copied the audio to a local drive. Success. BRONZE could then see the audio files. Then, after dragging the files onto the destination "album", naming, etc, attempting a burn - Unexpectedly Quit. Repeated 3X with aiff files, wav files, different DVD media.

Maybe it's a Tiger thing. Maybe it's a laptop thing. Maybe it's not just ready to leave the lab. Any better experiences??

Won't even start up for me. Admittedly, I am not up to date, but there are no specifications listed anywhere that I can find. DP4.12, OSX 10.2.8. G4 MDD dual 1GHz 1 GB ram. just tried the demo version. I did not buy it yet.

Sounds like this thing is not ready for prime time, and that motu users are being asked to beta test. And why not, we're so good at that....

1- I found that having my 6 mono .wav files located on my external Lacie Bigdisk does not show the time , format in Discwelder ...
2- I did export out of soundbite (dp) , 6 mono wav files 16 bit and Discwelder was showing time and format ....

3- So I did record and it does write 2 folders ....
a- Audio_TS folder containing six files
ATS_01_0.BUP 4k
ATS_01_0.IFO 4k
ATS_01_1.AOB 89.4Mb
AUDIO_PP.IFO 128K
AUDIO_TS.BUP 6K
AUDIO_TS.IFO 6K
b- VIDEO_TS folder empty ....
Plus it has ejected the disk before the end of the process .....weird ....
I taught I had it ......

It does not work in my dvd reader .....

Any luck from other guys .....
