Consumer CD Player into Traveler via Toslink? How To?

Have been trying to get a Sony CD player to play through the Traveler's optical port with no luck. Setup is CD Player>Toslink cable>Traveler>Monitor amp. I have tried every permutation of the settings I could think of. Should this work? I basically am looking to bypass the DAC of the CD player and use the Traveler as a DAC. This is a casual use, and not my main one for the Traveler, but I thought it should work.

Have you gone into cuemix and routed the toslink to the main outputs?
