Hi,
Considering buying DP4.5, but I have a question about licenses...
When I buy a copy do I get one license? And if so, can i uninstall the copy from one computer and onto another? Is there any sort of dongle requirements? I'm looking to install it on my iBook now, and possibly upgrade to a G5 later. Just don't want to shoot myself in the foot.
Thanks,
matt

Re: DP's licensing
As with just about every piece of software, it is licensed for one machine. IOW, running on only one machine at a time.
So if you DO put it on more than one machine, you are theoretically required to erase or NOT USE use it on the other machine. Perhaps the MOTU license let's you use it on two manchines, but as I only use one, I don't know. But there is no dongle.
As for MX4 and MachFive, there IS a dongle. Once the program is running, you can remove the dongle and as long as it continues running, you do not need the dongle. You could go to another machine and run those programs but to start them up again, you would need the dongle. This was displayed at the MOTU clinic on MachFive (run by a MOTU employee) in LA a few years ago. So I would take that as the definitive answer that you can run concurrent versions.
I don't see why you could not have installs on a desktop and laptop, however. I have done that when I have had to bring my work to a theater. Dropped all files on a Firewire drive and edited my cues and levels in the space. So you SHOULD be able to do it.

Re: DP's licensing
I believe that they offer you the right to put it on a backup and reg is not required which is a plus - just like propellorheads - NI --native instruments on the other hand are real nightmares about reg issues, etc..... I believe the Don't Abuse the freedom right applies here....Motu is a very good compnay in that regards re: DP and even MX4 - mx 4 requires the kelock on whichever computer you are usinf it on - the keylock is the determining factor....
re: propellorheads - I had an email for reason a way back that the head of the company said - sure use it on a backup - (my daughter's Mac) and maybe some day when she gets older she too will be a reason user too...so they too fit in the kindlier mode of registration as far as I am concerned!
Again do not absue your right. cool policy I think!

Re: DP's licensing
Good news! Nope, not thinking of abusing anything, I just don't want to be stuck buying it for my iBook then have to pay again later when I upgrade down the line. So barring any new equipment at NAMM it looks like I'll be going DP4.5/Traveler.
Can't wait to start recording on the road.
Thanks,
matt
