Unless I am missing something, there is no way to import samples into PSP, only export them into a host. Even then, they have to be in a PSP preset in order to do that and it seems to be only for loops and not for use as a sampler in the traditional sense.Aramis wrote:

M5v2 is definitely a day late; hopefully it won't be a $1 short.
I *ALWAYS* try to buy MOTU products whenever possible. I love DP and it would be hard to make a transition to something else. I feel like I do my small part to help DP continue being here by buying MOTU whenever possible. That said, K2 is a mighty fine product, which I never would have bought if M5v2 had existed, but now that I have it, it's a bit like DP in growing on you and becoming an indispensible part of the workflow. I hope MOTU comes out with something so awesome that me and many others would say "K2 is really great but MOTU has nailed it, it's worth the switch". But man it would really have to be off the charts to accomplish that.
The biggest issue in my mind is compatibility. You can almost buy a sample library today without even checking and you will know it not only runs on Kontakt but is specially made for Kontakt with .nki's. Will M5v2 achieve that level of univerasality? I hope so. But I fear M5v2 will be the MAS of samplers, a great product that just isn't the worldwide standard. With samplers, that does matter.

The longer the wait, the more I think there is to prove. Are we waiting while they address all these issues? Or are we waiting because the people behind the UVI engine are stalling and making excuses for shortcomings that MOTU and others are forcing them to go back and make solid? Or none of the above?Frodo wrote:...and it remains to be seen if its previous universal import burps have been ironed out. There's a little bit it needs to prove yet before M5v2 can be considered a genuine contender.
I'm getting close to just going with Kontakt2 and forgetting about MachFive2. All this waiting! Gaaaa!

I think the sampler comparison for compatibility, release dates, etc., has to be tempered by what you intend to do with it. If only as a playback environment for commercial sample libraries, Kontakt 2 has probably already won that battle. But for sound design, the E-Mu (alas, Windows only) and MOTU offerings seem far more intuitive, powerful, and unique, to me.
Yes, you can do a lot with KSP, but I haven't found the time to learn it yet. I think you need the video tutorial or something. I picked up the Kontakt 2 Power book from Thompson Publishing last week and hope to look at it soon to see if it can get me past some of my blockages with being creative with Kontakt. A very low priority at the moment though.

Could you elaborate? I don't know much about E-Mu's sampler, but I find Kontakt to be very capable when it comes to sound mangling. Its interface may be off-putting to some, but the functionality is there.mhschmieder wrote:But for sound design, the E-Mu (alas, Windows only) and MOTU offerings seem far more intuitive, powerful, and unique, to me.
The scripts can be really effective, and, as long as you are not writing them yourself, don't pose a steep learning curve. I have found some free third party scripts that have done wonders for my orchestral writing.mhschmieder wrote:Yes, you can do a lot with KSP, but I haven't found the time to learn it yet. Don't do it, because:blue wrote:Do it. The scripting in K2 trumps anything MachFive can throw at it, IMO.Shooshie wrote:I'm getting close to just going with Kontakt2 and forgetting about MachFive2.
1) Blue can't predict what MV II will be able to throw at K2.
2) Frodo quoted an imminent review on MV II on page 1 of the thread; he wrote:
"Well, it seems that there's now a review of M5v2 in the June edition of Emusician Magazine. (Thanks to williemeyers for this information.) "
This would suggest the wave's about to break, bud.
3) You love and support MOTU.
4) You've come this far (waited this long), and already like MV I.
It's only a matter of hanging on a little... longer... ugh...

Whilst we're waiting for Machy, Shoosh...

'Been off the board for a couple of days; I might take it a little easier whilst you're away.
I ordered a s/hand hard-cover version of that "Grammatical Man" book yesterday.
I already have Gleick's book; it's been sitting on my shelf since 1987 (I bought it new) waiting for the right time, which is of course... now!
St. Louis, eh? I wonder if someone down there can give you that killer long-term gig you've been looking for?
All the best, man, and give my love to the Mississippi!
