Mach V ver.2 *review*!!

Post by williemyers »

Can't believe I'm the first one to spot this - I'm *never* the first one to spot *anything*! - but Elec. Musician has a review of a beta copy of M5 v.2 in it's June '07 edition, which just arrived today. It's prefaced by editor Steve Oppenheimer comments about how they got a beta copy and why they decided to run the review (by Geary Yelton). Anyway, haven't even had a chance to look thru it (it's not online....paper copy only for now), but for all of you (us) M5v.2 hungry folks, get your EM!

You beat me by minutes. 32G sample library, 8G Piano, Orchestra samples from Vienna Symphonic Library?, not MSI, very interesting, wonder if they were told that, or guessed. Opens foriegn formats directly, no translation needed, Create synth command to layer as many oscillators as you want with samples, organ emulator with 9 drawbars percussion and rotating speaker, etc etc etc. These are things I had never read about Machfive 2. Now we'll all hold our breath till it shows up at the door. :D

That alone is a brow raiser, considering that's almost four times the version 1 sound bundle.

Now the *real* wait begins! :P

I wonder if MOTU will ever offer an official explanation of the unusually long delay?

Well, I think the world ends in 2032 according to that calendar, so maybe M5-2 will be outin time for some of us to write the funeral dirge for the world that no one will ever hear? That really would suck. Not so much that no one would hear it, but that I couldn't collect royalties on broadcasts of sue anyone for infringing.

I wonder if there is a copyright tribunal in hell? (I'll let you know...)

Well I hope it ships soon. I've been upgrading my stuff lately, buying sound modules (Korg Digital Legacy is a keeper) and I plunked down for MachFive and Ethno. Turns out M5 doesn't support intel macs (who doesn't have an intel mac now?). 'natch you can't return opened software, so I'm hosed unless a new versions ships soon with free upgrade for recent purchasers.

I hope it ships soon.

2032? Funeral Dirge? Copyright issues?

The left coast is appreciating your perspective.

It will be nice to get MachFive and have Kontakt version 666.0.

We need to call Jim Cooper!

So was EM's review positive about M5v2 and how it stacks against the competition?

I wonder who's lucky enough to be in their beta.

I don't have an Intel Mac and have no plans of buying one any time soon. At this point, due to Leopard slipping, probably March 2008 at the earliest. I'm more likely to buy a Muse Receptor instead.

Those new features sound amazing. I'm curious about the VSL inclusion, as Native Instruments announced that Kore 2 swill ship with stuff from Sonnivox (formerly Sonic Implants, but that doesn't mean necessarily that it's stuff from their top-end orchestral libraries vs. some of their sound font stuff).

Edit: After more research last night, I have one make-or-break question on the Receptor which I posed to Muse via email today. I may need to upgrade my Mac sooner than later if I don't get a Receptor. But I guess the date for the Mach Five v2 release is no reason for planning that exact timing.

I actually have no interest in importing existing libraries, I just want a sampler for sampling and manipulation of original material. I have always enjoyed using M5 for this. How is K2 working for you guys out there? I should probably add K2 to my armory despite what happens with M5 anyway.....

kind regards

Yup, I can confirm a Mayan I once met thinks it's 2012*, which explains why there's no Mayan team in the London Olympics**.

Hooray for Mach5v2012!

I'm told there are plenty of lawyers, so you never know...
