MOTU DEAD. Any tips for Resetting or fault finding???

Post by fatalgherkin »

Hello there,

I recently got hold of a 24 i/o that had been scrapped at work as it didn't work!. Well, I thought i would ask you folks if there was any funny' things I could do to get it working. As I didn't pay for it, I am not worried about chucking it, as I will just go back to the adats...

(background)
The unit itself has not been given any bad drops or had a hard life in any way, but when I installed the 424PCI card and followed all the instructions it was still failing to recognise the 24 i/o. (Windows XP Pro SP2, Intel 1.6GHz PC 796MB RAM 500GByte HD) (Unable to find MOTU hardware)

When the unit is switched on, it goes thru a boot sequence I guess, the bitrate lights cycle from top to bottom a fewtimes (4 IIRC) and then every channel shows one green light at the bottom and then... nothing...

I tried the same switch on with a good unit and the 44.1K light remains lit..

Any ideas, or do I put it back in the scrap bin.

Many thanks in advance,

FG.

Sounds like interface as in maybe the card or the input device. I have had (2) 896HD and 1 828mkII go bad that do a similar thing when the firewire goes out.

Some suggestions

1. Try the firewire driver roll back fix. There are a few posts on the net and RME has a good blow by blow description on its site.

2. Get it modded by Black Lion as they know these units inside out they may be able to get it up to scratch.
