slow open with 5.12
I have a large project (28GB) that is taking twice as long to open as it did in 5.11; anyone else having longer project open times? thx.
5.12 started a little weird for me

2012 Mac Pro 3.46GHz 12 core 96 gig,Mojave, DP11.01,Logic 10.51, RME UCX,Great River ME-1NV,a few microphones,UAD2, Komplete 12U,U-he,Omni & way too many VI's,Synths & FX galore!, Mimic Pro w/ SD3,Focal Twin 6 monitors, Shunyata...........
All of the problems I am having are at start up. FW config is inconsistent. I need to prestart LM Fire wire. There is inconsistency in the inserting plugs from clippings. Always run in real time does not always insert with it on even if the clipping is saved with it on. About 5 or 6 inserts in it will come up not on always run in real time checked.
When you open a 5.11 file soon as it runs and everything is working save as 5.12 or the file starts to deteriorate.
I can say that 5.12 is really rock solid once it is up and going. No crashes. I like 5.12. There is less cpu hit. BTD is different.

5.12 worse than 5.11
On my PPC Dual 2Gig, This new version crashes when I choose multiple audio assignments to change in prep for mix. I.K. multimedia Ampeg pluggin noticably sluggish in redraw creating a "permanent spike on CPU meter w/ very low average usage. I typically run 40 - 50 Waves pluggins per mix and this version is flawed! Since 4.61, these audio drivers have been #$%$#@ed!!

Unless there're hidden new features I need and am not yet aware of, I'm going to wait until the waters are a bit less murky.
We've all been pretty happy with 5.11 until now.
I assumed this "tiny" incremental update would have addressed the few remaining glitches.
At this point it looks like I was wrong, so I'll stick with our beloved 5.11 whilst hoping to be swayed in the near future.
Wax, I sincerely hope you make some progress with this soon; that sounds like a bit of a nightmare, man.
Keep up the good work, guineas; I'll follow your progress with an injection of mirth at hand should this all become too much.

You, sir, are a wise (and perceptive) man! Although the Frodester is small, his feet are quite large; his footprints thus make a good trail.ozheri wrote:i am waiting to upgrade until Frodo does so.
I charged right into 5.12, as I knew 5.11 would surely (and quickly) degrade severely once the update was announced. Your comment assures me my actions were well-taken.ozheri wrote:....in the meantime 5.11 seems more buggy to me since 5.12 became available
Dear friends-- please ignore the pitter patter of dirty feet!! We halflings are still in "if-it ain't-broke" mode-- reading all the reports, etc.HCMarkus wrote:You, sir, are a wise (and perceptive) man! Goodness, I'd rather not be a pace setter on this one. I'm actually in the middle of some projects right now and the few things I'm encountering will have to be endured until proper downtime allows for swapping things in and out and more thorough testing.
In the meantime, I'm weighing whatever issues I have with 5.11 with those others are having with 5.12. Once I get a sense that the benefits of upgrading to 5.12 overtake whatever few things are happening in 5.11, I'll make the jump.
Just today, I started noticing audio bursts with VIs-- maybe they're MIDI bursts-- can't tell just yet, but it's an old PPC problem that I thought was gone for good, especially on the Intel. On the PPC, I really thought they were MIDI bursts, but now I have my doubts.
Part of me wants to believe that it's associated somehow with the way DP deals with event chasing in combo with how DP and third-party VIs deal with AU in general. Event chasing is something that has spoiled me somewhat, but the bursts are unpredictable-- and unacceptable.
I hate to do it, but I'll try disabling event chasing sometime this weekend to see if the problem occurs at all. While the bursts would be a pain during mixing, it's probably best to disable it anyway during the "end game". I'm still not convinced that this is enough to do the update just yet-- that is, unless my little workaround doesn't solve the problem.
Oh, and I'm hanging with 10.4.8 for a spell longer.

Very wise, Bigfoot.
10.4.8 and DP 5.11 over here too.
What's the hurry, anyway?
Are the (few) new features earth-shatteringly important?
I think not, unless you're doing film and simply "must "have them.
