No, because other users using G4 PowerBooks have reported the same issue. This issue does not seem to be related to dual core/non-dual core or Intel/PPC.
I am curious, has anyone tried installing their hardware before they have installed ANY 3rd party audio/media software (specifically DP/AudioDesk)?
Mac Book Pro 2.66gHz, 2GB RAM, 120GBHD
10.4.9 (Combo Updated)
MOTU Traveler
Max/MSP/Jitter 4.62/1.62
DP 5.11
Ableton Live 6.0.5
FCP 5
Renoise 1.82
I was getting something like what is being described here, beeping noises on all channels, but usually followed by horribly distorted signal at career ending levels. I solved it by downgrading the ultralite firmware and removing a second video card I was running in my mac. Everything is pretty solid now.
I have had this Traveler problem constantly with both my G5 and my MBP..... it is frustrating and usually goes away after tweaking the sound prefs.......
I'm using a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.73. Sometimes I will load a session in logic and all I get is the clicks and beeps. iTunes usually plays fine. The only way I have figured out how to FIX it is to enter the driver settings in Logic and switch to the internal speakers and then back out to the coreaudio driver for the motu.
The weird part is that it appears to be Motu dependent. Sometime iTunes will do the same thing and I have to go into Logic reset the core audio driver and everything is peachy.
I don't know if there is a way to reset the core audio driver without Logic though.
I went through the original email MOTU sent me again and switching the optical in/outs to ADAT (from None) completely fixed my problem. Not sure if I also did something leading up to this as well, but fixed my problem. here's what the email suggested again (i know it's posted earlier in the post, but for convenience =))
Please try the following for your Firewire interface:
- Try a factory reset - push the Setup knob, turn it all the way to the right and follow the directions on the LCD. (828 mk II, Traveler and UltraLite ONLY)
- Try setting both your Optical Input and Optical Output in the MOTU Console to ADAT.
- Try a different Firewire cable.
- Try removing all other Firewire devices.
- Try different Firewire ports.
- Try powering the unit via Firewire or DC power
- Try the unit with a different computer, if possible.
- If you use a PCI Firewire card, check to make sure your card uses the Texas Instruments or Lucent chipset.
- Try reinstalling drivers:
Goto Macintosh HD > System > Library > Extensions
and trash the file, "MOTU Firewire Audio.kext."
Go into the Applications folder and trash all 3 MOTU Consoles. Empty the trash.
Reboot your machine, run a Repair Disk Permissions from your Apple Disk Utility, then reinstall our most recent drivers
from our website being sure that unit is NOT turned on.
Reboot and turn on your device.
