Newbie help: ultralite, but no audio

Post by aiken »

I just got an Ultralite set up with Vista x64. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers, and the thing is found in the sound control panel, as well as listed in Sonar 6's ASIO audio device list and the Rapture stand-alone ASIO list.

But I can't get it to make a sound. Looking at the CueMix console, I have all of the inputs at 0.0, but none of 'em light up with any level when I play soft synths (ie, Rapture, when set to use Analog 1-2). Also, the front display of the ultralite shows no levels. Rapture itself shows that its master out has volume.

I'm pretty sure that I'm just being clueless, since this is my first firewire audio interface. Suggestions?

I'm still stuck here -- programs show that they are sending audio, CueMix and the front panel of the Utlralite don't show any activity. However, I can get Analog 1 to show activity by running the SMTPE console and telling it to Stripe. So the thing seems to be there... just not for Sonar, Rapture, etc.

I've done some research, and confirmed that my PC has a TI firewire chip. Anything else I should be looking for?

IS the echo input button depressed in Sonar? I'm using Sonar5 pe. You have to have a track/w MIDI and your softsynths inserted recieving MIDI and then an audio track for the output of the softsynth. The audio track's output has to be sent to the Ultralight and the input echo button has to be depressed (green=on) Hope that helps!!

Hello everyone.

System Info : ASUS P5B-E Plus; Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6600 @ 2.40GHz, 4GB RAM; A-DATA 1GB DDR-II 800MHZ x 4; WD 150GB S-ATA RAPTOR 10000 WPM 16M x 2; SAPPHIRE ATI x 1650 Pro 256MB, 128BIT DDR3 600/1400MHz 12 Pipelines Dual DVI PCI-E display card; Windows XP Pro x64 Edition Version 2003 SP2

Cubase 4,

Problem :

* Installed Ultralite Drivers including UltraLite 1.1.5 Firmware Update (PC) and 64-bit Firewire and USB 2 Audio (Version: 3.6.7.4)
* The PC recognised Ultralite
* Hooked up 3 external keyboards to the analog ins 3 to 8
* For the audio set up, we are using the main outs L & R to the monitors
* Got the keyboard in and out live signals through the monitors and front panel of Ultralite
* Recorded the sound by using applications, including Cubase, Melodyne and Sound Forge but no sound was played back and no out signal on the front panel of Ultralite
* Tried to change the set up including sampling rate but still no sound
* Tried to change the out signals through headphone but still no sound
* Tried to play sound through Windows Media Player but no sound came out
* The on-board sound card is enabled and can hear music through this card when Windows Media Player / Sound Forge is selected

Waiting for an email from Motu.

Goodluck Aiken!

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

If you go to the Sounds and Audio Devices Control Panel, make sure that you see the UltraLite listed as a device under the Audio tab where it says Sound Playback Device. If you see the UltraLite here, choose the Main Outs or Phones. Then, apply and re-open Windows Media Player and see if the audio comes out correctly. If this does not work, please try the following:

- Try a factory reset - push the Setup knob, turn it all the way to the right and follow the directions on the LCD. (828 mk II, Traveler and UltraLite ONLY)
- Try setting both your Optical Input and Optical Output in the MOTU Console to ADAT.
- Try setting the buffer size to 256 in the MOTU Audio Setup.
- Try a different Firewire cable.
- Try removing all other Firewire devices.
- Try different Firewire ports.
- Try powering the unit via Firewire or DC power
- Try the unit with a different computer, if possible.
- If you use a PCI Firewire card, check to make sure your card uses the Texas Instruments or Lucent chipset.
- Try reinstalling drivers.

Thanks for writing,
Nathan

Do you see any levels indicated on the LCD of the MOTU unit?

Same Problem

Post by RJH_MUSIC »

I have the exact problem and I am contemplating going back to XP pro from VISTA 64. I have one additional problem, the MDI IN works fine but the MIDI OUT port does not work. I confirmed this by unplugging my HUI from the Ultralite an pluggin it into my MTPAV USB and it lit up like a christmas tree.
