Multiple 828 output problems HELP !

Post by jjwonk »

I am using 3 (original) 828 interfaces in my rig thru a firewire hub. (Just added the third one). Before the additional 828, I had no problem with input and output assignments when fed to my 3204 Mackie board. The first 828 played back thru channels 1-8, the second 828 played back thru channels 9-16. Since I added the third 828 and routed "another bank" of playback thru channels 17-24, the outputs are not playing back thru the assigned channels. For example 828-1's output assignments are playing back thru 828-3's outputs. I have all the outputs in DP assigned properly. The cabling from the interfaces are routed correctly. I removed all other firewire devices from the firewire hub. The Mackie board assignments are correct. I have designated 828-1 as the master interface. I suspect I have something wrong configured in the Audio-MIDI setup, or on the configure hardware driver settings. I'm hoping someone can tell me what the problem might be.
Thanks Jay

Not sure what your problem is, but you might be able to connect one of your 828's to the "master" 828 via ADAT and see if that helps-- you may be overloading your firewire bus?

Thanks I'll try that. Would like to know if anyone has experienced this using 3 828's via firewire hub. Take one 828 out of the chain and it's fine. Checked all the hub inputs too, all working good.

You should check motu's website, but I think they recommend using a timepiece (http://www.motu.com/products/MIDI/) if you are using more than two 828's.

Still baffled by this problem. Can't understand why all the playback outputs are not playing thru the assigned channels on my mixing board.
Motu 828-1 outputs are playing back thru channels 17-24 on the mixer (even though they are wired to play thru channels 1-8)
Motu 828-2 outputs are playing thru channels 1-8 on the mixer (even though they are wired to play thru channels 9-16)
Motu 828-3 outputs are playing back thru channels 9-16 on the mixer (even though they are wired to play back thru channels 17-24 on the mixer)
I have designated Motu 828-1 as the master. All 3 interfaces show up in the hardware configuration menu and are selected.
Am I doing something wrong in the audio setup perhaps ?
I have searched in vain to find a similar problem and cannot find anyone who has experienced this odd occurence. Since they all are working properly, I suspect I have something set wrong in DP4.6 or audio setup.
Still could use some suggestions or help. Thanks.
