Selected Automation Copies on Select and Drag

Post by bhcomposing »

Here is a very frustrating issue I have encountered in DP5. Sometimes, I want to take down the entire level of an audio track, but keep all its volume automation curves. So I think that selecting all the automation points and dragging should create the result I am looking for, right? WRONG!

When I select a tracks entire automation and drag, what results is an exact copy of the data...this means that both the original data in its location and the new data in its location are present. This of course is not desirable (can we say click/pop city!). And deleting the original automation after the copy is just to cumbersome and tricky. Any help out there?

I'm on 4.61, but I'm sure this is the same in version 5 :

Region Menu > Change Continuous Data.

Select the audio track you want to alter in the Tracks Overview window. Make sure that the whole track is selected by double-clicking on the word "selection". Go to "Change Continuous Data", choose "Audio Volume" and tab down to the "Add ____ to all values" box. Tell it what you want to do and hit "apply". Voila!

PS. You can also select all your automation nodules in the Sequence Editor by double-clicking on one of them. Then use the same "Change Continuous Data" method for raising or lowering level.

You could also use the "Trim" plug-in to expand or shrink the overall level of the soundbite.

That only happens when I hold the Option key while dragging.

But yeah......I say go to the Commands window and make a key command for Change Continuous Data. To me it can quicker than trying to drag nodes with precision, though I do both.
